Frankly I'm a bit surprised the Steelers didn't call him after what happened to their backfield last night.
I wonder if this mean that Shaun Alexander will get to play ball.

Just from a public relations stand point I'm shocked they signed this guy. What a bunch of dumb asses

I was just going to post the same thing. After a promising start there the team spun their wheels and is now sliding backwards.

I don't think he's acting that way, I just heard someone- I think maybe John Clayton - infer that Lewis would gladly part ways with Cincy at this point. Crazy how fortunes change in this league. It wasn't too long ago he was Brian Billick's D-Coordinator for a Super Bowl Champion. Now Billick is out of coaching all together and Lewis isn't far behind.

Hopefully Benson can turn his career around and do something productive.

Don't forget about the fact that he made a stop here in 2002 and made us a top 5 defense. That was suppose to prove that he didn't need Ray Lewis and company to run a great defense. There were points during Spurrier and early in Gibbs 2.0 where I had wish we made him the head coach instead, but like you said it's crazy how quickly this league can turn on you.

LOL, I guess the cycle of self-destruction in Cincinatti is now complete. Look for them to give Travis Henry a look in 2012 once he gets out of jail.

He was the only reason we won 7 games and not 3 during Spurrier's first season.

Re: Cedric Benson Signed With Bengals

How much does this speak about Shaun Alexander? The fact that Cincy and Pittsburgh both have running back problems but neither of them are interested speaks volumes.

As for Marvin Lewis and Cincy, I agree that they would be better off if they parted ways.

I gotta wonder how much he's even looking for work right now. There must be something going on behind the scenes with him as far as motivation/conditioning that the public isn't privy too. The fact that he isn't even a time-share somewhere or at the very least a 2nd stringer is just crazy. I know RB is the most vulnerable and punishing position in sports, but this is the fastest fall off I can ever remember.

But Alexander can't do anything other than run, so unless you are using him as your feature back you won't get anything out of him. No special teams, no third down blocking. And when you factor in that he has clearly lost a step or 9, and that he is by all accounts not the greatest locker room guy (remember when he accused Holmgren of sabotaging his career for not giving him a goal line carry at the end of the year?) I can see why teams are reluctant to bring him in. If you are Cincinatti do you really want him whining behind the scenes about how much better he is than Chris Perry? If you are Pittsburgh do you let him within 100 miles of your team?

All that being said, If I had to guess I would say he'll find his way onto a roster by the end of the year.

Re: Cedric Benson Signed With Bengals

Cedric Benson used to ask out of games in the middle of drives because he was winded. That was after he went through all the training camp/OTAs/whatever that NFL teams have. Now he walks into the middle of a season...

If Benson carries on two successive plays this weekend, he'll probably need a blow.

If Cedric Benson is the answer to your problems in the running game, then you really didn't have much of a problem to begin with.

The thing that keeps Marvin Lewis safe for now is that his deal with the Bengals goes through the end of the '09 season. The Bengals' ownership is VERY thrifty - - they squeeze a nickel so hard that the buffalo craps - - and that ownership is not likely to fire a coach and then pay him a year and a half of salary to sit home and scratch his butt. Based on the record in Cincy and the cast of characters there, Lewis should have been fired last year.

I feel bad for Marvin Lewis. He seems to be a good coach in a "no-win" situation. The bengals...the bengals...gosh..the bengals
