Re: Smoot Lays The Smack Down (Week 4)
I was on the fence with that. On one hand I love Zorn's aggressiveness, but that mentality isn't going to work all the time. In that situation I couldn't argue with milking the clock and not risking a turnover, and taking a 9 point lead with just a few minutes on the clock.

You gotta' believe that the plan changes and morphs completely with the elements at the time. score, field position, time outs, momentum, etc. While my ego wants the TD, you cannot argue with the results.

The holding was absurd. Didn't look much like a hold to me. The downfield is crap. Straight crap. How can a lineman be expected to block a player, drive him backwards and then not be "downfield" when the defensive player disengages? What is he supposed to do? Magically float back to the line of scrimmage like a fairy? I don't get that. It's not even like he did anything after the defensive player moved off. He just stood there. He wasn't pursing or anything. I don't get how that can be called downfield. |

PS. That crew was awful. I don't we've had particularly good crews this year. But that one was the worst.

I actually thought he had a pretty good day. He seemed to run straight up the field rather than dance around back there.

One of those plays should've been a PA pass.

Re: Smoot Lays The Smack Down (Week 4)
Couldn't agree more. I only saw one bad play on his part yesterday (whiffing at the line on the jam) but several good open-field tackles and he played deep well when they were in the Cobra D (3 safeties).

Re: Smoot Lays The Smack Down (Week 4)
The Miles Austin TD was a broken play. Double-edged sword was that Reed made the right jump to go cover Austin as he looked to stay short, but because of the pass rush got to Romo so quickly, Austin improvised on his route to get open, leaving Reed to have to quickly shift gears.

Re: Smoot Lays The Smack Down (Week 4)
i thought rabach had a tough day to say the least since two score were called back..i,m always wondering what the refs are thinking especially when we play this team called dallas but it is what it is..we won the damn game anyways..
now for the prevent please scrap that freaking defense it doesnt do us any good anyways..that drive the boyz went down the field like we were asleep or something..i,ve never liked it and i never will. i,m happy with everybodys efforts other than going to prevent....only made it closer than it should have been. now for the last drive i was getting ready to see them punch it in or at least do another slant for the first down then run the clock down then kick the field goal or the touchdown whichever came first but overall they did what was best under the circumstances. we shoud have never seen the onsides kick at the end anyways... oh by the way that squib kick what in the hell were you thinking anyways.. but overall i,m feeling zorny today..

I want to give props overall to special teams. Yes, the squib kick was awful, but that aside....

Re: Smoot Lays The Smack Down (Week 4)
My one complaint is that Cooley is not getting enough catches/yards/TDs.... I mean come on Zorn, I have him and Portis in my fantasy league and even though I am winning most of the time, I like it when my Skins are the ones putting me over the top.
By the way, you need to read Cooley's blog today... He is just a funny guy and a true Redskin...

Re: Smoot Lays The Smack Down (Week 4)
I'm happy with the win, of course, but really if they convert that onside kick then in all likelihood we are 2-2 and thinking of how we dominated for 55 minutes but didn't win. I understand the concept of the umbrella D to keep it in front of you and make the tackle so the clock runs, but it almost cost the game. We came on the field at the end of the first half wanting to hold them to a FG and let them drive. Then, knowing they needed two scores we backed off at the end of the game too. If they happen to burn you then they beat you. Otherwise you are trying not to lose which is what so many people hated about last year.
