Re: Theismann Honored on Sunday
I think Joe was the only QB that ever returned punts. Do you young guys remember that?

Re: Theismann Honored on Sunday
I will prob wear my Theisman jersey... Even though Joe's ego always came before the team, he was a great QB for Gibbs in his first tenure. As a kid I acquired several autographed photos and still write my cursive "J" just like Joe!

Re: Theismann Honored on Sunday
I had forgotten about that. I couldn't remember if he had returned punts or if he had punted.

Re: Theismann Honored on Sunday
He did both. He returned punts for Coach George Allen because it was the only way he could get on the field. He punted for Coach Gibbs when the regular punter got hurt against the Bears some year. His punt, if I remember correctly, went fo 1 yard or -1 yard or something. It was a big play for the other team. I can't for the life of me remember what the game was. It wasn't a playoff game. If anyone has the scoop on that, let me know.

The fact that we were able to beat that team in Chicago two years straight (1987 and 1988) in January stands as one of the great achievements in NFL history.

Re: Theismann Honored on Sunday
Absolutely, not many people remember that the Bears went 14-2 the year after they went 15-1 and won it all. And the Skins beat them in the playoffs!

Re: Theismann Honored on Sunday
Joey T. might have an ego but he was the first Redskin QB of the superbowl era to give us our first SB. Tough he was, anybody that returns punts and wears that funky single bar and gets punished by LT is tough. I know Sonny and Billy were great but I love JT!!

Sports Machine 1986, kind of a retro look at his career while hes trying to come back from the leg injury. Dude tried hard to make it back. |

Re: Theismann Honored on Sunday
wasnt that play Riggins ran it was on 4th and 1, not 4th and long as stated earlier.. also i believe Joe Theismann's best play of his career was possibly where he batted his own pass down at about the skins' 2 yard line in the superbowl. if it that was intercepted and returned for score by dolphins the game would have been different i believe.(also stated earlier.)

Re: Theismann Honored on Sunday
I enjoyed Theismann when he was on the field. He brought excitement to the game and was a real leader for the Skins. Theismann the analyst is a different story. I prefer to remember Theismann for what he did when he put on the helmet.
