Re: Patten released
It's not likely a team will surrender anything for a player of his age and injury history that's about to be releaded anyway.

Re: Patten released
What would you have offered for a 11 year vet with 14 games played, and 23 catches the last 2 seasons?

Re: Patten released
Nice guy who was a talented player, but it clearly didnt work out and it was time to move on. I wish him the best in his future endeavours, be they in the NFL or in automobile sales

NOTTA! To bad it didn't work for us. DP just never could get it going OR stay healthy long enough to get it going. I think mother time has caught up with DP, not much time left. HAPPY TRAILS

Re: Patten released
good for both parties. patten still can play for some team out there, and he was going to get limited time here. i thought it was a very good signing because he was a versatile player who was a good character guy, but he got injured and didnt get many opportunites after that.

Re: Patten released
good points for the most part here - he was injured more than he played, he's old, he dosn't play spec. teams, and he was a 2nd or 3rd wr in his prime.
I think we have to say it was a good signing overall. Before anybody quotes his low #s, remember that early in 05 our O opened up the vertical passing game & although he didn't catch a lot, he was a respected deep threat in the nfl who drew attention. When he & Thomas went down we struggled. It would've been interesting to see what he could've done in 05 playoffs if we hadn't put him on IR. Clearly Taylor Jacobs didn't step up the way the coaches thought he could. |

Re: Patten released
Gotta have a guy that plays special teams as the 3rd or 4th receiver. When he dropped last year, the writing was on the wall.

Re: Patten released
I still wonder if we could have gotten by with Patten last year rather than having to spend a 3rd and a 4th for Lloyd.

Re: Patten released
Patten was a great locker room guy, and I wish he could have brought more to this team production wise, but you have to admire the way he handled himself through two tough years here, it seemed like he was always there for the team. Sorry to see Patten go but hopefully this move makes room for a youngblood like Espy.

Re: Patten released
Hopefully this will open up a roster spot for Mike Epsy or another unproven rookie we bring in. I like the move and I hope his saved us some money. I'd really like to see a young guy starting to be groomed in this offense.
