Oh yeah, I saw the presser, and I'm with you. Owning that disaster the way he did is part of why I love 'im and why 'Skins Nation is RG3 for life now, do or die.

So he'd rather be blindsided in the pocket vs. seeing everything clearly in front of him while running the ball? Personally, I thought he looked safest last season when he was running out in open space. All he had to do was use the rules to his advantage and get down or run out of bounds. Pretty simple.

If he gets hurt this year, it's going to happen on a bad hit in the pocket. This notion that the pocket's safer is BS. Look how the Eagles blitzed with no threat of the read option. The Skins hardly got blitzed at all last year.

I think that remains to be seen.....whether he can run a conventional offense and do it consistently well. We don't know that yet.

I want to see him come out next week and do what Colin K. has done to the Green Bay defense the two times he's played them.

Re: Skins v Eagles post game thread

24 hours after the game, My thoughts after the pain has passed:

RG3 looked like crap...yes he got better during the 2nd half, but it was against a team with a massive lead. I don't recall a moment the entire last year he looked so bad as a rookie. He obviously is uncomfortable...he wasn't stepping into his passes either, indicating a lack of confidence in his knee or his offensive line.

The Skins' offensive line is bad in traditional blocking, either run or pass. This is a light zone blocking scheme line. Only 1 lineman would be wanted on most teams...as you recall...almost everyone said how crappy our Oline was for years before RG3 was drafted, now all of a sudden, only Polumbus is a problem....well...an incredibly gifted running QB makes a weak oline into a strength....and last night we all saw what RG3 without his running skills does to the team. It is a Major impact. Developing RG3 into a pocket passer may not really be possible until we upgrade our line.

The team as a whole was not prepared for the game..that is on Shanny.
The Skins must have believed they could just "play" and win.
Critical penalties, fumbles, interceptions, safeties...all just in the first quarter.
Then there were bad passes, dropped passes, no pass rush, horrible safety play. Based on all these "facts"...the Skins should have lost 45-7...but they didn't...Somehow they kept it respectable...so that is a positive.

I personally don't believe RG3 is going to instantly be in probowl form in 6 days. It may be a while...we just need to protect him. We need to get really good at running screens and shotgun draws or something, or bring back Mike Sellers to crush someone..or maybe run some reverses to get over-aggressive defenses to back off. Until RG3 can burn someone deep or get his hurdling mojo back, they will load the box..wouldn't you?

Disappointed..I just don't see the Skins as a playoff caliber team based on their schedule and competition. I'd rank them around 15 right now. They barely made it last year, and that is because they dominated the division. Losing to Philly makes that a real problem. It will be far easier to win the East than to get a wildcard between Seattle, Saints, Minnesota, Chicago, Dallas or Giants (perhaps philly). Now we have to sweep at least Dallas or the Gmen to realistically win the east...that is very hard in year 2 of a new scheme with a slower QB.

Bottom line, it was one game...but it was a very bad game. Good thing there are 16 of them...I just want to get to the bye at 2-2 and get our guys back + Merriweather and dare I say it?...Tanard Jackson...damn, I would consider starting Reed at SS moving forward...Rambo is going to get torched by GB.

While I'm at it...and I know it is one game but....Orakpo is still underperforming. Kerrigan is far better in my mind. Maybe he too was tenative with his injury issue...but Cofield at a non impact position had more impact with a BROKEN HAND than Orakpo did. If he doesn't start getting to the passer, he is going to end up on another team....Heck...lets get that rookie guy in there occasionally if he can't do it. At least Rak can draw a holding penalty, but the result is a torn pec for every 10 of those.

This is the biggest question to be answered this season.
If RG3 can run a conventional offense, he will have a long career. If not, we will have a very short term window for a Super Bowl run

Ironically, this injury could be the best thing that ever happened to him, IF it forces him to go through his progressions and deliver accurate passes from the pocket....we shall see what the long term future of the Skins will be in yr 2 of RG3. I think the guy is really good..but we haven't seen RG3 without his speed win games yet.

Who cares if players were out drinking the night before a 7PM game?! Of they got home at 2am, they could get 10 hours of sleep and be feeling great by noon - 7 hours before kickoff.

That's not true.. RG3 can run the East Coast offense and have a long career if he protects himself.

This is an excellent post. Whether RG can be successful in a more traditional offense isn't all on him tho. Oline personnel and scheme are bigger concerns to me than RG's skill, work ethic etc etc.
Three years in it doesn't look like Mike can put together a line to pass protect against today's defenses. The issue was just masked last season.

I wonder what our record would have been in the last two meaningful games the Skins have played (SEA/PHI) if Cousins had started.

I also wonder when you factor in injuries if Cousins is not the better long term option at QB over RGIII. Just food for thought.

To ask RGIII to be a traditional QB would be like asking Payton to be a running QB. You can find a balance but he will never be "pocket" QB.
