Re: Alex Smith’s Amazing Comeback(?)
Yeah, but there was basically zero chance of drafting another QB in the first round before Rivera had a chance to evaluate Haskins himself. Not sure there was a lesson to be learned there. Chase was the correct pick.
I'm NOT for reaching for Lance if they pick in the top 10. |

While it’s a nice story, bringing Alex back next year would be another in a long line of garbage decisions by an organization preaching culture change but doing the opposite. You need to find your QB this offseason, the sooner you do it the faster we can get on to this future I keep hearing about but not witnessing.

Re: Alex Smith’s Amazing Comeback(?)
I think all the posts do a good job of laying out the "what if" scenarios. Theres good arguments to ride with Alex next year and good arguments to draft a QB. I think it comes down to personal choice.
I think we still have a lot of future unknown events that will dictate the decision. 1. Can Alex Smith stay healthy and finish the season not on IR? Thats not a given and if he tears an ACL or something, he'd be 37 next year and miss TC etc. 2. Assuming we are out of the Lawrence-fields sweepstakes and land the no. 5-10 pick, do we have a high enough grade on Wilson or Lance to take them vs a LT/LB/CB? 3. Maybe something stunning happens in FA and a Drew Brees is available .. --------- Im fine with drafting a QB, going with Alex or going a vet FA route. I do expect to be .500 or better next year. ------------------ Alex smith contract -- 24.4M cap hit for 2021, if we cut him hes a 10.8 dead cap hit (but wed free up 13.6M)

Re: Alex Smith’s Amazing Comeback(?)
One thing about the Tua vs Young talk...first both have been the real deal. But can Tua stay healthy and make it threw a full NFL season?
I have a tonnnn of doubts

Seriously I don't even understand why this is a discussion. We have an immobile 37 year old qb, any half decent team understands that's not an ideal position for the short or long term. Only way we don't draft a qb is if the guy Ron wants isn't available.

Smith's mobility doesn't bother me though - he's still more mobile than a lot of QBs in the league. What I don't understand is the talk about bringing in a Veteran QB. Why would you release Smith and start over with another Veteran, who will command a decent salary himself, and who will have to get acquainted with the offense / staff, etc., when you have Alex Smith already under contract. |

Yeah lol. When i look at every team in the division and the rest of their games I see 5 wins at best for any of them. Could have something to do with a 2-18-1 record outside the division. One win was a squeaker by Dallas over Atlanta (who sucks) with Dak. I mean let’s face it, the division can only beat itself and that is 6 wins tops but nobody has a perfect division record so far. Douche Snyder ruined my Sundays |

Re: Alex Smith’s Amazing Comeback(?)
NFL Networks' Ian Rapoport said Washington head coach Ron Rivera wants Alex Smith back as the team's quarterback in 2021.
How about no

Re: Alex Smith’s Amazing Comeback(?)
I'm fine with it if we aren't able to draft a rookie QB that will be ready to play immediately. Ideally we would move on from Smith but there are multiple teams that will look for new QBs so our options might be limited.

Re: Alex Smith’s Amazing Comeback(?)
Yeah, I'm fine with that too. If he finishes the season strong and healthy, and he wants to keep playing, why not bring him back? A Smith is more than capable of running this offense for another year if healthy.
That doesn't mean that if things break your way in the draft, that you don't draft his replacement. They should absolutely be looking at drafting a QB next year. However, they might not like the options at their pick - at least not someone to come in and start right away. |

Re: Alex Smith’s Amazing Comeback(?)
He wants him back to groom our future QB like KC did with Mahomes

Re: Alex Smith’s Amazing Comeback(?)
Why don’t we stop guessing and see what happens. It’s nice to surmise about the thought process of coaches. It’s obvious that Alex can still play at a high level.

Re: Alex Smith’s Amazing Comeback(?)
My question to you is how can you make that assessment when Alex is 8-5 as Washington’s starter and everyone else is 6-21? How shortsighted of you.

I’m done with second guessing Smith. The guy is just a winner.
