Re: Trade deadline approaching...

SF had the leverage mainly due to the knee concerns. They knew we'd take something vs nothing. Not ideal but the defense was trash with both of them here so are we really missing out on anything? No guarantee SF will be able to re-sign him either.

SF is taking him as a rental, a win-win for both the team and Chase. And somewhat low risk for a team like the 49ers to lose a 3rd round pick IMO.

They had 3 3rd rounders and we probably got the lowest one.

Exactly this. Plus a good chance Chase wasn't going to sign a long term deal here anyway and maybe they knew that. Maybe could've gotten more for him in offseason with a franchise tag but then you're risking injury.

Montez Sweat is a good solid pro, sad to see him go but good return for him.

Chase Young is soft and lazy, good riddance.

Re: Trade deadline approaching...

I may have this wrong, but if Chase left in the offseason, wouldn't we have gotten a compensatory 3rd round pick (albeit in 2025)? So we essentially shipped him out for what is likely to be a lower 3rd round pick a year earlier than we might have otherwise received one? If so, that doesn't seem like a good deal for us.

unless we signed a free agent of similar quality which would wipe out the compensatory pick. i feel the new ownership group is going to want to spend some of that 90million, so compensatory pics would not come our way

Both picks would be 3rd round compensatory picks most likely, so they would be within in a few spots of each other.

I'd rather have pick 100 this coming draft than pick 95 in 2025.

After seeing all 50 of his snaps against the Eagles I'm not really sad he's gone. The effort level is disappointing. Also his inability to ever rush from a low angle is frustrating - if the 49ers get that out of him they might have something to work with. That tape is frustrating - he's a physical specimen that plays with poor technique. I'd rather have a physically limited guy that gives 100% effort vs. him.

Eye in the sky don't lie. Good riddance. Good luck.

Re: Trade deadline approaching...

We don’t need Toohill and JSW to be game wreckers, just play within the scheme. They’re both solid enough to hold things down. Don’t underestimate hungry players either. This is a big chance for both of them.

Smith-Williams was already part of the front four that generates the most pass success. Toohill has looked solid. I will not be surprised if the DL plays better. That is relative of course but wouldn't surprise me.

Re: Trade deadline approaching...

I think Toohill has already shown enough to be signed to a solid contract. At worst he's a great No. 3, rotational option.
