Except cash in white envelopes.

Re: Redskins 2012 Salary Cap Status

are there any video/computer games that offer a realistic salary cap/franchise mode? i didn't buy madden 12 but i assume there still only 2 ways to structure contracts; back load using the bonus, or even steven using no bonus

CC, what do you know about Cedric Griffin's deal, in terms of the percentage of base salary vs. the percentage of incentives.

Well it's a 1-year $2.5M deal. All sources seem to agree with this.

But his actual salary is only $1.25M. So my guess is they gave him half in salary and half as a roster bonus/LTBE incentives etc. It all gets treated the same for cap purposes anyways.

Re: Redskins 2012 Salary Cap Status

I just figured if there was a player on the roster who had a NLTBE incentive in his contract, it'd be him.

Mara says Redskins, Cowboys are lucky they didn’t lose draft picks | ProFootballTalk

IMO Mara comes across as a arrogant A#S. Once again IMO the fact that the NFL office is in NY gives him to much influence on the Commissioner.

Re: Redskins 2012 Salary Cap Status

I think I may have figured out the logical reason for how we structured the Carriker contract:

Redskins and Cowboys file grievance against NFL; Giants’ owner unintentionally helps them out | Shutdown Corner - Yahoo! Sports

If you read the parts that quote Halsell, what we did with Haynesworth and Hall in 2010 -- and what we were punished for -- is simply a greater scale version of what we just did with Carriker following the salary cap penalties. The argument that the league approved the deals in 2010, then approved the Carriker deal in 2012, strengthens the Redskins position that the tactic wasn't shady then, and isn't now.

The practical application isn't the same at all. But if we're going to fight to get the space back, using that technique again in a capped year makes a lot of sense to build a case.

Re: Redskins 2012 Salary Cap Status

But here's the craziest part: had either Haynesworth or Hall actually voided their deals in 2011, we would have received a salary credit for the amount of the bonus, meaning we could have effectively been working with a cap of about $135 million.

Of course, neither was going to cut us an eight figure check that was greater than the amount they would have gotten on the open market, but still. That would have been ridiculous.
