Re: Skins v Eagles post game thread
Well, a bit of a depressing start to the season -- getting crushed in the first half at home by a division rival on national TV. We rallied and made a game of it, but lots of things have to be corrected. it is a long season, and every year, we win one I think we're not likely to win, and lose at least one that I would have predicted a W -- let's hope that defines our first two weeks and that we pick up a W in Green Bay.
I thought Perry Riley was outstanding -- he and Kerrigan were really strong; Fletch and Rak were pretty quiet and that is a little disconcerting. To me, the biggest positive was Riley's play -- he was everywhere. Hankerson looked solid as well, and I thought Moss was his reliable self as well. Some positives to build upon, but we need to do it soon. Green Bay is going to be a challenge; we ought to beat the Raiders, and then we also have Detroit before the bye and they really did a number of the Vikings (even holding AP to a very modest rushing total). We really have to get two wins before the bye somehow -- we cannot dig ourselves a hole like we did last year, and the bye is so early that we won't have any time to regroup as the season wears on. |

Re: Skins v Eagles post game thread
I put OTHER because it was all the above and then some. Not that they have to go back to the drawing board or anything. If they can clean up some things during the week, have a better defensive game plan in place for a "more familiar" GB offense, I would expect to come home with a hard fought W next week.
It was encouraging to see the Defense make the necessary adjustments to slow down that Philly offense, and it was encouraging to see the offense clean up their act as the game progressed. Unfortunately the early mistakes and miscues put us in too deep a hole to overcome. Still a chance to go 3-1 for the first quarter of the season... |

Seriously though there were to many mistakes in the first half, and they didn't get the offense fired up until the 4th quarter. IF III played in preseason and was injured we would have tarred and feathered Shanny. Its week one, 15 to go and the NFC East is up for grabs. I still believe it is our division.

One positive note that I haven't seen discussed much is I thought Amerson played a quality game. Looks like he will be a good corner in the NFL.

Playing in the preseason wouldn't have prevented the team's bad play, but it certainly would have helped RG3's game in the first half. And if RG3 would have played well, it would have partially negated the bad play of the other players; instead of a 19 point deficit at half-time, it would have been more like a 10 point deficit. The quarterback is the most important player on the field, and if he would have played well the whole game, it would have gone a lot better for everyone. This Eagles' game was his preseason, and he will come out firing on all cylinders against Green Bay. Philly will be but a distant memory when we come out victorious. |

When you're not getting your name called and you're a secondary player, that's typically a really good thing. I think he'll be a solid #1 for us next year.

Re: Skins v Eagles post game thread
every time I look at this thread and see the level of discussion about the D, I'm amazed. Out of 10 drives that Philly started in their field, they had:
1 TD 1 FG 2 Turnovers (both resulting in TD's for the Skins 1 def. 1 off.) 5 punts 1 kneel down. out of 4 starting on the Skins side, they had 3 TD's and 1 punt. Short fields are offenses friends. For the record, the Skins started 1 drive on the Eagles side and had 1 TD. We had 2 drives that started outside our 30, we TD's on both. If Kai makes that FG, we are playing to kick a game winner(wouldn't go for 2 the one time) instead of going for it on 4th and 15. |

Speaking of easing in a player. Would you all welcome back Tanard and immediately put him in as the starting FS knowing he's rusty but Rambo is also a rookie, or do you go with the growing pains of getting a young rookie safety acclimated to the NFL as a starter since the other starter hasn't played in a regular season game in 2 years?

Is that assuming rg3 was 100% at the beginning of preseason?

You could just as easily say "if RG3 played in the preseason, he would have been lost for the season." It's all speculation, and boils down to the fact that it wasn't worth the risk. It's one game, time to move on. |

Re: Skins v Eagles post game thread
Oh yeah I guess another positive is Mr. Riley. He played a hell of a game. We should work out a long term deal with him soon, because London's gone next year.
Also when did he start going by Perry Riley Jr. ?
