We also have to rectify this knowing that given the current roster (read: age + salary structure), the 2011 team almost certainly won't be as good as the 2010 team.

There are plenty of things a team can do in the offseason to better its long term and short term fortunes. But the only thing a team can do to completely change the outlook of it's organization in a year is have an other worldly (better than 98% of all other) draft class. And we're already down two picks and retained only 2 players (plus 3 UDFAs) from this class.

So while it's about 11 months too early to have an accurate prediction for next year's Redskins (or even if there will be a next year's Redskins), it's worth pointing out that any move we make that hurts our chances to win this year is doing so at the expense of next year's team as well.

To be clear, I'm not saying that the 2011 team can't win. They can: but only if we ALREADY have the right balance of players to be successful now and in the future. If we cut Albert Haynesworth and have a poor rushing defense with limited pass rush, there's no silver lining. There's just decreased quality of defense going forward.

I am actually a little frustrated with how the Chargers won't even field teams inquiring about VJ for less than a second and a third. Its ridiculous.

I know our 3rd & 4th are gone, but didn't we pick up a 5th (J. Brown) and 7th (Tryon). There doesn't appear to be much in the 2011 draft at NT, but a few good 3-4 DEs should be available when we pick in the 1st.

Not if it means getting rid of AH, who at this point appears to be resigned to being an unproductive @ss-hole (AH) for 2010. If we can pick up a 2nd for the guy I don't see how that hurts us. Did you see AH staying with us and being productive in 2011? I sure don't.

No way do I advocate cutting AH, only a trade for something in the area of a 2nd rounder. The 2011 team should be positioned to win, even while getting rid of AH. Our secondary is young and should improve over the course of the year. Fletch shoud still be productive in 2011, the rest of the LBs appear solid, providing Orakpo matures at the 3-4 OLB spot (if not, he's got trade value to a team playing a 4-3 and needing an RDE). The place we need to shore up is the front three and there are some good 3-4 DL coming up as FAs in 2011 also.

the run defense may be poor with or without him. but to me this is why the front office MUST get something in return. they simply can't let the guy walk w/out compensation.

i don't think Shanahan would deal him if he didn't think we could still win without him, Landry will play SS but he will in the box a lot almost as another LB i think we can stop the run, and i think we will have a strong pass rush considering Orakpo will be Blitzed a lot more with will do a couple things, 1 it could expose carter as a bad coverage man and the QB could just check to his man, or Orakpo disrupts the QB enough he throws an inaccurate pass.

No frigging way. We need draft picks period. Ship Fat Albert back to Tenn for a first rounder and a second or at least 2 second rounders minimum. We can use this opportunity to get draft picks back!!!!! I rather wait a year and draft a top WR than get VJ. The Draftee will work harder to prove he belongs and will be younger. Hopefully we don't get a prime dona though.
