The way to early 2021 cap status.

Has the Skins sitting good.

Not a surprise based on what we can use the crystal ball to see. I am excited to see RR build this thing.

The problem with OTC numbers for next year, if you look you will see they assume a $17m increase in the cap next year. Right now, with them talking about empty stadiums I don't see them increasing the cap. Of course that puts the Cowboys and Eagles into deeper hole, what a shame.

Ticket revenue only goes to the owners (so does stadium naming rights and stadium usage, etc., etc.). If I'm not mistaken, the majority of the funding for the cap comes from TV deals, which the NFL is set to negotiate soon. Unless there is no football whatsoever, I don't see any changes to the cap IMO.

Regardless of if it goes up the main point is we will be in better cap space than our peers in the division.

Re: Redskins Salary Cap Status - 2020

Read this tidbit about Morgan Moses in a piece on Hogs Haven ...

Moses is under contract until 2022, but, ironically, this contract may actually work against him if he can’t show significant improvement almost immediately. The Redskins brought in competition for Moses when they signed Cornelius Lucas in March. Right Tackle Lucas outperformed Moses in every measure in 2019 and offers the Redskins a relatively low-cost alternative.

By cutting or trading Moses, the Redskins could save $4.85m in cap space in 2020 alone, but would reduce salary cap charges by $22.25m over the remaining three years of his contract. Lucas, by contrast, will cost the Redskins just $3.8m for the 2020 and 2021 seasons combined.

Moses has been struggling for two to three seasons after playing very well in ‘15 & ‘16. His contract is relatively expensive at roughly $8.7m per season, he has struggled in pass protection, has been an absolute liability with regards to penalties, and the Redskins have a right tackle on the roster in Cornelius Lucas who outplayed Moses in 2019 and costs an economical $1.9m per year. Morgan Moses is definitely under pressure.

That's a reasonable plan, to address a revenue hit this season.

Hopefully the hit this season isn't nearly as bad as is being thrown around. Maybe these forecasts will turn out to be as wrong as the initial corona virus models were. And a lot of this will amount to "not much at all".

The Skins are sitting pretty no matter what.

Redskins Salary Cap Status - 2020

The latest new is that in 2021 the Redskins, with a new name, will have something like $74 mill in cap space. Fourth best in the NFL.

For this season I predict the team will pick up a few players in key positions after the PS player cuts. Especially at TE. Anyone they pick up right before our first REGULAR game will be on a one year, cheap, “show me” contract. The team has kept slots open on the team and has plenty of cap space. Players will look favorably on our franchise . We’re definitely are on the way UP, with a new HC, a young Qb, CHASE Young, etc..

There isn't much optimism that a long-term deal will be struck with right guard Brandon Scherff before the July 15 deadline to sign players on the franchise tag, a source said. Barring any changes over the next week, Scherff would play on the tag for $15.03 million. The Redskins have expressed a desire to keep him long term as part of their core while strengthening the rest of their offensive line. Scherff has made three Pro Bowls.

Re: Redskins Salary Cap Status - 2020

Scherff ... I honestly dont know what to do with him. Good arguments for either side

Pros for LTD:
- he is an elite top 10-15 G
- We do not have any other elite OL players
- No real long term replacement on the roster
- developing Haskins, can we afford to let our best OL walk?

Cons
- injury prone
- has not played a full season in 3 years
- played in 19 of the last 32 games
- Not that hard to replace. Really good guards can be found in FA for less than the 15M AAV he is probably looking for

--------------------------------

my bottom line -- im actually happy he will play on the tag. Let him prove he can stay healthy and play a full season. If he can play at an all pro level, make him the highest paid G. If he cant, consider the transition tag or something, let him walk.

lesson learned -- NEVER FUCKING DRAFT AN IOL IN THE TOP 10 .. EVER. You can find good value IOL in rounds 2-5 and in FA. Round 1 picks should be for elite positions that you cant readily fill.

If a deal doesn't get done and I'm Brandon Scherff, I'm hitting free agency. Hard.

Re: Redskins Salary Cap Status - 2020

Reportedly the Skins offered him 13M AAV last year but he declined. No idea how much of that was guaranteed money (which is the only thing that matters).

Zach Martin and Brandon Brooks are at about 14M AAV, 4 years, with 40% guaranteed.

4 yrs, 56M with 23M guaranteed would be an equivalent offer.

----------------

If he doesnt stay healthy this season i dont think he gets 14M AAV

Re: Redskins Salary Cap Status - 2020

When it comes to the cap, I'm clueless.

But maybe someone here can help me figure out how much of our cap room can be used to re-sign our stud draft picks who's rookie deals are coming up, and what that leaves for chasing talented free agents in the free agent market.

It seems to me that the key to long term success for us, is the ability to not only go get great free agents, but to hang onto our high end draft picks that have paid off.

Re: Redskins Salary Cap Status - 2020

I believe dumping Trent gave us quite a bit of cap room and we're in really good shape.

We have some holes, we should start buying and fixing them. Mainly left tackle, unless we trust Morgan Moses and Sadiq Charles...the secondary...and tight end still.

There's also a good chance we'll need to replace Scherff after this year.
