Re: 2015 Redskins Coaches/Coordinators News

1. Vic probably didn't want to come here..same as Schwartz who people keep mentioning.
2. We have complained for years about hiring guys based on past performance. (Wade, Vic, Mangini would have been one of those.)
3. Bottom line Jays job on the line, if we win 4 to 5 games whole staff will be gone. If I was him I would have gone with Wade who has a track record of quick turnarounds on D.
4. Joe Barry seems likes a good old boy hire but I am willing to give him a chance.

Re: 2015 Redskins Coaches/Coordinators News

I don't like this hire one bit. Lets be honest guys, our coordinators are very sub par. I don't care what talent you have, 0-16 in Detroit is unacceptable and is partly to blame on Barry. This is a downgrade from Haslett, but maybe a fresh voice can help. Our offensive coordinator, Sean Mcvay, is a 28 year old with some UFL experience, and very little NFL experience (except for the Redskin mandatory Tampa experience). I know Jay is calling the plays, but we need more proven coordinators.

Very good hires at GM and offensive line coach, though, so there is a silver lining...

OK so Gruden knows him, which steers me in the direction that this was Jay's hire. Fine, that's the way it should be.

But I really get sick and f'n tired of the 'hiring guys you know' concept. If all I did was hire people I went to school with or worked with in the past I'd be closing myself off to so many candidates. It's a losing mentality.

Trust doesn't have to come from a prior working relationship, trust can also come from mutually aligned goals. Stupid decision.

Still very unimpressed with Jay Gruden.

Not really. Barry is given credit by the local media for turning in a really good season and getting the most of San Diego's LB corp despite having to use a lot of back ups and lesser talent.

RM is a guy who has been around the block, been a DC, a HC and a position coach for many years with marginal success at each stop.

Then again, that may just be the Kool-Aid (weak as it is at this point) speaking.

Before I throw my tantrum, I want to see what happens to Morris. I believe it is time for him to move on. Otherwise, his influence will far outweigh his significance and both Barry & Gruden will need to be looking over their shoulder because RM is a BA bud and potential replacement for both/either.

Plus, he has a GREAT personality.

What a piss poor hire! We had Wade Phillips, a proven DC, available. We decided to hire a proven loser.

What was wrong with the DC from the Cardinals?

Pendergast was the DC for the Cards a couple of seasons ago. I think he was out of football in 2014 and was coaching at the college level before that.

Re: 2015 Redskins Coaches/Coordinators News

My guess is some of the bigger names may have not wanted to come--it's a shit D, talent-wise, and DC has a reputation of being a place where folks get scapegoated for organizational problems. Who would want that job? They all probably were asking for 4-5 years guaranteed big money, and that's not gonna happen, I suppose. Why not go to a good D and a functional organization? Wade may have come, but I think he'd want big money and there seems to be worry about his age (not my worry, but whatever).

So they went with Barry who at the very least is motivated to clear his good name after the stink of the Lions and who seems well-liked in SD at his position. Plus, he's a known commodity--the up-side of the good ole boy thing is that you know to a good degree what you're getting. An organization that works well together is something we've rarely had here, just sayin. Plus, he agreed to come. Snyder's money can't buy everything and it may be that BA is starting to feel tired of paying all these coaches to sit on couches and watch the tube.

My bottom line: we need better talent on the field. If Barry works, fine. If not, when we've got some legit talent, we'll get somebody better. WE ARE YEARS AWAY, folks. Remember that.

No matter what has been said, I'm not convinced that Wade genuinely was interested

Re: 2015 Redskins Coaches/Coordinators News

I am very confused.

Step 1...hire the best GM available
Step 2...hire the worst DC available

One step forward...one step back (keeping Morris would make 2)

By the way, I believe Barry was hired by the Chargers when AJ Smith was their GM.

So Vic, Wade and maybe others may have been generally not interested in this job, how much is that based on the fact we might have a lame duck coach?
