Even if they weren't happy with the D-linemen at #6, why not trade down just a few spots and pick up more selections in the second or third? Winding up with the #31 spot in the first round smashes any notion of trading down. |

If the Bears threw in their 3rd rounder, Briggs doesn't ask for a $18M+ signing bonus, and the coaches think there's a starting-caliber DT/DE at #31, I wouldn't be opposed to the trade.

Saying we're keeping a 1st rounder with the 31st pick is technically true. But it doesn't mean a hell of a lot. Going from 6 to 31 means we're giving up a ton of opportunity.

This is a ticket selling money making pick. Not loving the idea of bringin in FA linebacker to learn new system when we can get a fresh college kid and mold him for much less. If we got two picks out of the deal maybe, but that's not in the cards.

Again, it's not about what we're getting. It's about what opportunities we're giving up here. There is no rationalizing why this deal makes sense. Please, people stop being homers for a second and stretching yourselves to come to the defense of the great Joe Gibbs. We need a DT to stop the run (how quickly we forget Tiki gashing us in week 17). We need athleticism at safety alongside Taylor (Fox was OK, but at the end of the season, was the secondary at the level you really want it?). We need a Guard with a big body (do you trust a 6'8" Todd Wade to get low enough to clear the way for Portis around the goalline when we sorely need a TD?). We don't need one mother effing linebacker, for God's sakes. Do you really think we're THAT good right now? That Briggs will come in and take us to the next level? We need multiple athletes. I don't want to say we're in rebuilding mode, but we're definitely still BUILDING.

Re: NFL Network: Bears' Briggs, 31st Pick for Skins' 6th Pick?
Plain and Simple: This is a great deal if we get a second or third round pick. This is a really great deal if we get the 31st and 37th. We get screwed if we just get the 31st.

The difference between 31 money and 33 money is miniscule.

Re: NFL Network: Bears' Briggs, 31st Pick for Skins' 6th Pick?
Well said. I got no problem with Briggs and think he'd be a good player for us. But the fact is we need more players than just him and whatever the 31 will buy us. Put another pick in the deal (a 3rd rounder would do) and I'd be on board.

I don't care what's happened already, that's history, I care what's about to happen. The best way to go is add mutliple athletes because we have multiple holes. There is no argument otherwise.

Re: NFL Network: Bears' Briggs, 31st Pick for Skins' 6th Pick?
Fundamental questions to ask yourself about the Redskins:
Are you satisfied with Todd Wade at G? Is that a long term answer? Are you satisfied with Pierson Prioleau (coming off a major knee injury), Vernon Fox, and Omar Stoutmire alongside Sean Taylor? Are you satisfied with Todd Yoder as your backup TE? Are you satisfied with our pass rush off the End? Regardless of how you feel about Carter (I think he looked good at the end of the year), how much longer do you think Daniels and Wynn can be effective? Are they even effective enough for your tastes when healthy? Do you trust Kedric Golston (290 pounds) to improve against the run enough to enable us to get back to blitzing on 2nd and 8 and 3rd and 6? Remember, if we're in 2nd and 6 and 3rd and 3 all the time, we can't blitz much, can we. How much longer can Cornelius Griffin (30 yrs old) hold up? What happens to us if he gets hurt? And you want Lance Briggs and the 31st???
