I live in SEC country now and all ofmy friends are SC Gamecocks fans. They all know who this guy is and seem to think he could be a beast. One of them who knows the most is an Eagles fan and he wishes they had gotten him. Good job front office. nice addition to a D line who is instantly young.
I really haven't seen him play, just going by what I've read. This is good to hear from people with firsthand knowledge.

True, I'm aware that he's considered a draft pick for next year. But the risk taken on this 3rd round player this year is not the same as a 3rd round pick next year. This guy was in the supplement draft for a reason.

Basically I'm just saying that the Skins are choosing to be risky when they aren't really in the position of dominance to assume that kind of risk.

Re: Redskins Select Jarmon in 3rd Round of Supplemental Draft

I can't really say anything to support or be against this move because I have none on this guy beside the reports on him I read.. However, I would have to look at this move as a positive sign for our FO; the reason why we drafted Jarmon is to replace Phillips and Wynn after the 2010 season.. Which is something we rarely do.. I hope the FO will continue this trend..

I guess I can say I'm in waiting-to-see-what-happens mode (pretty much same as everyone else) but I don't think it would be a bust pick for us.. I'm not saying that Jarmon would rise to a great or star player, but I believe he will rise to level where he is serviceable as #1 LDE for years.. Or more..

Supplemental draft, not supplement draft. Freudian slip

How is the risk taken on a 3rd round pick any less next year?

lol...I didn't even see that...

He hasn't played competitive football in a year which is always something that hinders athletic progress. Pacman wasn't the same player when he came back to the Cowboys, I doubt Vick will be, but that is a tangent.

The guy did better earlier in his college career and then his stats trail off. He subsequently gets charged with taking PEDs, not to say he used them for an athletic edge.

If we had the 3rd round pick next year we would have a broad selection of various athletic talents to choose from. We instead used it this year on one risky player who hasn't played within the year.

...I'm not saying it's a terrible thing, I'm just saying that it is risky when a team like the Skins have already used up all of their risk in the recent years.

Re: Redskins Select Jarmon in 3rd Round of Supplemental Draft

#1. All drafted players are risky. Face the fact. No one knows how they will turn out in the NFL.
#2. Experts are saying had he come out this yr he would have been a 3rd or higher.
#3. If I'm not mistaken...he played in 2008. In May he found out he would not get to play in college this yr...2009, so he entered the Supp. Draft in order to move on to the pros. He has not been out a yr.
The NCAA ruled Jarmon, a three-year starter for the Wildcats, ineligible for the 2009 college football season
His only recourse was to enter the NFL Supplemental Draft so that he would not miss a football season.

#4. The only down side is the fact next yr you won't hear the Skins pick 6 times. Big Deal. They picked up a draft early to train and he's from college so he's young not some old has been we keep giving up several picks for.

I know it has been said, but he did play this year. it would have been this upcoming season he would have been inactive, so by your own logic, this was a risk reduction move by the FO. Next year this All SEC player would have been sitting out if not drafted, and he would have been less of a player. Instead we get this guy, who missed the nfl draft because he wanted to stay in school and we get him to be worked out, see the nfl speed etc a year before we really need him and before he would have been normally available.

I see...I think too many of us-and maybe it's because we're scarred by moves like the Duckett and Lloyd trades-believe that the only truly successful off-seasons are the ones where we keep all our picks and draft players using those picks. That it matters less what we do with those picks than that we have them.

But we shouldn't keep our picks just to keep our picks. I don't think we should necessarily focus so much on now we don't have a 3rd round pick in April 2010, but what did we do with that pick.

I don't see where there's all that much risk involved with this pick. At least not anymore risk than is involved with any pick.

Re: Redskins Select Jarmon in 3rd Round of Supplemental Draft

Also if you want to talk about Risk then Orakpo is the biggest risk in my opinion. He was picked up in the first round and will be getting paid a lot of money. If he does not do well or does not fit our system we are screwed. But that could also be said of AH. Look at Archuletta.

To get this guy a yr early is awsome. At worst he has a yr to learn the system and learn under some NFL pros. Then becomes a monster next yr. At best he gets playing time and several sacks.

The only downside is were going to have yet another offseason without our full lineup of draft picks. I personally think that the Skins are a team that need to prove they have the discipline to go one year with keeping all their allotment due to the past aggressive use of draft picks.
Skinny,

Didn't we have all our picks plus some in last year's draft. I could be wrong, but I thought we did.

I think his suspension came after he could enter the 2009 draft.

Sorry...thought he sat out his senior year.

...I guess that kind of detracts credibility from my argument...
