Re: It never ceases to amaze me...
I think Jerry Jones is at least as meddlesome as Danny Boy - and probably even more. Remember, Jerry Jones fired a Super Bowl winning coach in some kind of ego-battle. Danny Boy hasn't done that - - yet.
You can criticize Dr. Z for praising Jones for doing something that is probably marginal for the Cowboys in the near and distant future here such as signing Jason Fewrguson. But to say that this praise for Jones is horendously unfair to Danny Boy because of the "Jetskins" signings is a bit myopic. [I'm trying to be polite here so grant me the use of that adjective, please.] Criticism of the Redskins and/or their roster moves and/or the decisions of the Redskins' Front Office is NOT incontrovertible evidence that the accuser is ignorant, biased or even misinformed. The record is what it is: Danny Boy bought the team and before he had the chance to demonstrate his football and management acumen, the team made the playoffs and came within one score of going to the NFC Championship game. Since then, under his leadership, the Skins have not had a winning season - let alone a playoff appearance. Dr. Z didn't cause that track record of ownership success to happen. Neither did Len Pasquerelli or Sally Jenkins or any other sportswriter who might be critical of what the Redskins have done. I've taken a lot of shots at Danny Boy over the last five years for some really shortsighted and boneheaded moves. So far, he's been wrong for making the moves far more frequently than I've been wrong in saying the moves were stupid. But I didn't make the moves stupid by saying I thought they were wrong. That's the problem with the Warpathers who fulminate at any hint of specific criticism of the Redskins and their "strategic direction" by members of the press. Danny Boy is a genius at making money; no one with a shred of intellect could deny that without holding crossed fingers behind their back. Maybe the best thing that could happen to the Redskins is for Danny Boy to become so engrossed with his attempted purchase of Six Flags that he will pay no attention to the Skins for about three years and let others who might - just MIGHT - know more about the NFL than he does to run the team. Is that worth a try?
