How do I record games onto DVD?

I wasn't sure if i should put this in here or in film room, or possibly warpath cribs. If this is in the wrong place, could a mod please move it. Anyways, i was wondering if i wanted to record regular season games onto dvd, how would i do it, what equipment would i need, i.e. blank dvds, dvd recorder, etc.

Re: How do I record games onto DVD?

tv capture card (starting at $20-30)
dvd recorder + blank dvds (starting at $40-60 and $20 per 100)
massive massive hard drive + a decent cpu to speed up compression... some software packages will let you record straight to DVD, that takes some cpu etc to do in real time though. I've found the best way is to record to a hard drive and remove commercials/worthless crap (random announcer babbling etc) then compress it to a divx .avi file (HD quality at 350mb/hour... you could get up to 6 games on ONE dvd, but to play those back on a tv you'd need a tv out or a dvd player that'll play divx (which exist but aren't common))

There is a Phillips DivX player on amazon.com. It's one of the top sellers, I HIGHLY suggest it. It will play anything you throw in it.

Wow, those have really dropped in price! I might have to invest in that... It would be nice not to have to wait for encoding...

Re: How do I record games onto DVD?

wow, as low as 112$ and thats at best buy... if you can connect it to a computer or external hard drive that'd make it even better (since it probably only encodes to mpg video)

Yeah, I mean maybe two games on a disc. But that's still good...

the big thing about transfering is cutting out the commercials and downtime, dropping a full game from 3 1/2 hours to under 2 as well as compression... 6 games per DVD

Re: How do I record games onto DVD?

I was looking through a best buy catalog a few days ago and was kinda suprised at how cheap they've become too. Just a few months ago they were atleast double that price.

Re: How do I record games onto DVD?

That guy, in my advancing years, I'm looking for simple. Hahaha. I've been doing Family Guy eps by encoding and it just takes too long. I WOULD love to have all my games being very pristine copies though...

Decisions, decisions.

I have the Panasonic DRM 80, can't recommend it enough. Superb for games, easy to edit down the game to an ad free/garbage free 2 hours or less.

I now have Tivo with HD and I'll be experimenting with Tivo to DVR for this season.

Re: How do I record games onto DVD?

I have this feeling that with all of us investing in technology, one way or another we will be able to "find a way" to make sure that anyone who wants a copy of a game can get one.

Re: How do I record games onto DVD?

my friend has a dvd rewriter on his computer. how does that tie in to copying the games to dvds? does it mean that all i have to do is get the games onto my computer, then i can just write them to a disc?
