Let's say you're a successful businessman, you worked your hind-quarters off in school, took the risk of funding your own college, worked 50+ hour weeks for 20+ years and now are doing well. Not mega-rich, but say $ 1M yr. or so income. You're already paying a much higher tax rate than most everyone else and you're subject to the estate tax when you pass away, why would you not do everything you could to protect your hard earned assests for yourself and your family (think future generations)? Why would you pay more to the gov't who will simply take your money and do whatever it wants with it? It could be used to fund Planned Parenthood, it could be used for a new weapon system, it could go to a social program, it doesn't matter where the $$$ goes it's not going to help you and your family.

That's a very shitty unbalanced equation. One is paying someone to shield their money from uncle sam and the other works hard but has no money to pay uncle sam let alone someone to hide money for them.

You guys make it seem like anyone could qualify for earned income credit, forget who created it and why it's a bloody good idea (hint, Ford created, Reagan strengthened it and it is meant to provide people and families relief and help them escape poverty).

The top 1% pay approximately % 40 or so of federal income taxes. This begs a larger question, why should the wealthy have to pay a higher % in tax than someone who's poor. Does a wealthy person use more of the federal highway system? Does the military protect the wealthy person more than the poor person from foreign aggression? Let's not forget all the wealthy aren't just the "evil, rich, country club republicans". Many of the rich are Dems....but as long as they can influence members of Congress to protect their interests it makes sense to send a few thousand to Dems/libs. There are many areas where you will never have a R/con congressperson.

FairTax will be revenue neutral, closes the tax loopholes used by the very rich and is a point-of-sale tax. Same rate for everyone, rich buy more they're taxed more.

i def dont agree with CR 134 post, and FairTax i dont know enough about, ill read up. Most of what I have heard about Fairtax has been vastly inconsistent. Our tax codes and rules are out dated and need addressing asap. I agree with Paul Ryan when he said "cutting federal spending is the perfect time to look at Tax reform" or something along those lines. He's exactly right. I just have zero faith in our congress.
