Re: London Fletcher re-signs with Redskins

5mill per is a lot better than 8-10 per like the first reports.

that's a great deal for the skins. It's funny that he could have not fired his agent and signed a better offer two months ago. oh well.

I think the waiting game really paid off for us... That seems odd that the Skins would offer him something higher and he ends up only signing for that much. His agent must really be terrible.

Agreed, I should have ignored him.

So back to Fletcher...

I fully expect him to play the next 2 years at a Pro Bowl level, not saying he'll be recognized but his play really has not declined. He'll throw in another couple of interceptions and plenty of highlight reel hits.

I don't see him retiring until he's at least 40 unless he decides to leave before his play falls apart. Many players stay a year too long but if anyone has the intelligence and integrity to actually realize it's time to stop before it is too late, I think London would be that guy.
I see it this way too. It would be ideal if we draft another ILB this year or next for London to mentor. He is one of the smartest defenders in the game and his coaching/mentorship would be invaluable.

Excellent, thats what I said in my first post, that 3 - 5 mil per yr is what I would expect to pay,not 13 mil per yr

Anyhow, others should probably do the same or just add people to your ignore list.

Now back to London...

Re: London Fletcher re-signs with Redskins

Fletcher is truly worth 6 or 7 million dollars a year. What he's done for the Redskins defense the past five years is priceless. By all accounts going by the way Fletcher has played, there's no price you can put on it.

Off topic-your best post ever.

On topic-Suprised at the price, but not at our FO approach. Even though they still get a bad rap, BA/MS have been consistent for the most part. They polished the turd VC left and now turning it into fertilizer.

Fletcher was a critical re-sign for Redskins - NFC East Blog - ESPN

We already know most of stuff in the article, but still a good one.

Re: London Fletcher re-signs with Redskins

I keep seeing the phrases "No price is too much for Fletcher" or "he's worth a huge contract" and "What's he's done for the past 5 years" (my personal favorite) mentioned in this thread but none of you are logical about it.

First off, you have to remember this is a business. Second, you have to remember there is only a certain amount of resources a team can tie up on salaries.

Ok, once you grasp those two concepts, then you'll understand that paying a 37 year old linebacker huge sums of money isn't smart. I don't care if he is the leader of a team. I don't care if he is the face of the franchise. I don't care if he did lead the NFL in tackles. It's not what he has done, it's what he will do. I think history shows us quite well that 37+ linebackers really aren't going to produce at the level that they did 5 years ago. Do you actually think that Fletcher can cover RBs/TEs like he did 5 years ago? Not sure what team you were watching last year, but I recall Fletcher slow to a many of plays and it wasn't because of lack of effort or heart. It's his age, his speed and it sure isn't going to get better over the course of the next year. A 37 year old isn't going to beat a 23 year old RB on the edge. A 37 year old isn't going to keep up with a Gronkowski.

I understand you guys are huge fans of him and so am I. There isn't a person on this team that has been more valuable to this franchise than Fletcher. That doesn't mean you just throw tons of cash at him because of what he's meant to us. He got paid rewarding during his time here and will so on this next contract.

You think Fletcher meant more to our team than Peyton Manning meant to the Colts? They made a business decision (smart one) and so did we by not overpaying Fletcher. I'm very satisfied with the numbers that he signed for and think it's funny he could have gotten more had he not fired his agent. Talk about a huge backfire.

Let's put away all this talk about "hobbled" linebacker and raise our mugs to welcome a man back who's put it all on the line for this team even though many others haven't.

I'm glad Fletcher re-signed with the Redskins. Could you or me or anybody imagine what the reaction would have been had London Fletcher walked on the Redskins? I wouldn't want to think about that.

I know it's a business but it nice to see Fletcher rewarded. Skins have had the rep of giving big checks to the big names but letting "their guys " go.

Even though we let him taste the market, I think it's a bit different.
