The Skins and other teams took advantage both legally and in the spirit of a CBA tool meant to punish one or both sides for allowing the uncapped year to happen. Many owners colluded to strip said tool of the power it held from a labor standpoint. The league allowed the contracts in spite of the fact that there was an agreement not do allow such behavior. It cannot be stated more clearly...the league is punishing two teams, entirely without regard for the other teams in the league that acted similarly, for not engaging in an illegal labor negotiating ploy. The argument that what they did created competitive imbalance, while on it's face pretty dubious, is completely irrelevant. THAT WAS WHAT THE UNCAPPED YEAR WAS INTENDED TO DO. |
