Re: Vick is a crybaby
Why is this a thread? If you watched Vick at VT and saw how he sacrificed his body for his team every week you wouldn't call him a cry baby. Any one of us would be cry babies if we played in the NFL and got 300 pound lineman hitting us every week.

Re: Vick is a crybaby
it's his choice to be that type of player, even if it is the best choice

And I'll add my own . I think the refs and even the league are treading on the fine line of discrimination/racism wrt Vick. He's listed as a quarterback period end of sentence and when he's behind the LOS extending a play w/ his feet there's no legitimate excuse for the helmet to helmet and/or late hits he takes. In short, every other marquee (err white) QB in the league gets the benefit of the doubt everytime in those instances. F*ck you barely lay a finger on Tom B's pretty head or dare to tap him after a play and there's a shower of yellow flags coming in for minutes. Same goes for several others.I understand there's room for debate about what type of guy Vick is i.e. character issues but it's really, really disingenuous to pretend it's ok the guy is treated differently as a player. Off soap-box...and ps I'm white.

I would say Matt Ryan is pretty white and as far as I remember he was the one that wasn't getting the roughing the passer calls when his Falcons squared off with the Eagles last week. Josh Freeman, Campbell, McNabb all get their fair share of roughing calls so I don't think your theory holds any water.

Campbell went the entire 2009 season without drawing a roughing flag, despite the fact we couldn't block anybody. But McNabb drew a roughing flag against the Cowboys on opening night 2010. This is a penalty that gets flagged really inconsistently, and Vick seems to be on the wrong side of that more often than not. But it's a league-wide problem. This does seem like a case of sour grapes, but I'll say this: Brady is far more whiny about it than Vick is. If there's any element of race here, it's not in how the penalties are administered, its in the public reaction to it: Brady is doing it because he's a competitor, Vick is doing it because he's soft.

And maybe in your area Brady gets a little more love since he's a Michigan guy. The three super bowls help too.

Re: Vick is a crybaby
I wasn't calling him a crybaby for how he plays, just the way he loses.

And I've played in the military and semi-pro at QB...while the players aren't 300lbers, there were some damn good athletes (prior NCAA) at 250+ getting clean shots on my blind-side. There was also some dirty stuff that went on in semi-pro. I never whined or cried about it....and I wasn't getting a 7 figure paycheck either. I suspect there's several others on the board that have played at a higher level than me who didn't whine and cry like a little **tch when they took a few shots. I'm sure Vick improved his Q score this weekend. LOL.

Re: Vick is a crybaby
I'm no Vick fan but if Canty makes that hit on Brees or Brady then it's a flag at the very least

Re: Vick is a crybaby
Vick honestly does get hit a lot more, after the ball is thrown, than other QBs in the league. Yes, its his his o-line's fault but Vick never gets the flag. The defense and refs treat him like he is a RB. Eagle fans complain about this all the time, not just this game. While watching the game i was thinking that another QB would get some ref-assistance on a lot of those plays.
That being said, i'm happy that Vick doesn't get these calls. Maybe his whining(and injury) will lead to the refs being more favorable to him in the future, which is upsetting. With this added publicity, some people will be calling out racism which will also lead to the refs being more favorable to Vick. Last edited by BigSKINBauer; 09-26-2011 at 01:53 AM. |
