Re: Haynesworth to the Patriots for a 5th rounder.
Peters is only going to miss a few weeks, not the whole season

I think most coaches do a little of both.

I guess then what sets them apart is that some do it more effectively than others.

Albert Haynesworth was a lazy - - and anti-social - - toad who took plays off while he was at the Univ of Tennessee and when he played for the Tennessee Titans. Then he had a great year in his "contract year". The Redskins "brain trust" ignored his career-long history of being a lazy, anti-social toad and loooked only at his "contract year performance". Then they handed him a monster contract somehow thinking that having all that money would change his natural behavior. Two words here: Not - - - Happening... Then after a lackluster first year here, the Redskins new "brain trust" handed him a check for $21M after he gave them "Scout's Honor" that he would do what the coaches told him to do. Two words here: Not - - - Happening... Haynesworth was a toad before the Skins signed him; the Skins made him an uber-rich toad; now, he is behaving like a toad in New England. He is consistent in his "toad-ness". The Redskins took two years and about $30M to figure it out.

Basically Bruce Allen saw an opportunity to protect the teams future when the cap came back and decided to take advantage of the uncapped year.

Re: Haynesworth to the Patriots for a 5th rounder.
And that's why the whole "well Bruce Allen is almost a cap/contract guy" stuff is bunk, because even if it's true, what exactly is wrong with a guy who could do those kind of things?

If what you say is true, then the Redskins only owed Haynesworth something less than $21M as a roster bonus last April. I am not sure that is true, but let me assume it is. So how much less did they owe him? Let's assume it was only $15M for the sake of argument. Your contention is that they paid Haynesworth $21M to protect their future salary cap and to make it easier to "move him on". So, how did that work out? Even if you give Bruce Allen genius points for tossing in a few extra millions of dollars to "protect the cap" and also to relieve future teams from the burden of the stupid contract, what they got for Haynesworth was this: 12 games of half-assed effortLook at that record and tell me it was worth $21M - - or even $15M? Would the Redskins be in worse shape today if they had simply released Haynesworth and not paid him a dime in April 2010? I really don't think so...

Re: Haynesworth to the Patriots for a 5th rounder.
that 21 mil check in april was guaranteed in the contract he signed with vinny at the helm, bruce had no way of making that 21 mil not guaranteed or not payable ... the skins had to pay him that money no matter what.
Mike met with AH right before that 21 mil was due and told AH that the skins would out right release him (so he could go to a 4-3 team) if he waived the 21 mil but if he accepted the 21 mil that Mike expected AH to report to camp and due whatever the skins asked him to do, including his joke about playing safety. AH accpeted the money, the rest is history . . . Now AH restructered his contract to make approx 1.5 mil this year and he isnt in camp. You know what I think . .he wants a new contract that wil pay him 8 plus mil a season. I guessin AH is waiting for the pats roster to be finalized before he and the pats talk about how much room they have to pay him in a new contract.

Re: Haynesworth to the Patriots for a 5th rounder.
And with that $21M bonus, he was basically untradeable until it was paid. It was a bad contract to begin with.
