I was right when I said very early in the off-season Skins fans should be very concerned about our defense under Shanahan/Haslett. In short, it's been a disaster IMHO. The new regime took a very solid 4-3 defensive unit, arguably an addition or two away from being elite, and turned it into one of the worst in football. I understand we don't have many players who fit the 3-4...but shouldn't that be part of the decision process before forcing the switch?!!! Now we face major personnel turnover to make the 3-4 successful. How long will it take? Will Haslett be around long enough to see it through (knowing Shanahan's penchant for axing d-coordinators)? Will Shanahan even be around long enough to see it through?
That's a glaring overestimation of the defense from last year. Lots of older players who overachieved under Gregg Williams and were only going downhill without an infusion of younger guys. We've been in the 4-3 many times this year and they sucked either way.

Re: I was right when...

Just wondering where all this support was for the D last year? I kinda recall most everyone being fed up with Blache and his ultra-conservative schemes. I think Beems is right, the talent just isn't there, and the age of the unit and lack of talent is glaring this year now that it's not being protected by a super conservative approach.

Thank you Matty.

I don't think last year's D was the 'lights out, shut everyone down in their path'-type defense many of us are making them out to be.

No one wants Blache or his "Landry as a guardian angel" philosophy back. But I would sure as hell like to grab someone who was an aggressive 4-3 coordinator.

It wasn't at all, people seem to forget it was a bend but don't break D that gave up a lot of long drives, produced hardly any turnovers and didn't generate much pressure. Blache had one big supporter here and that was his son, can't remember his name but we ended up booting him because he was such a jackass.

Re: I was right when...

3-4, 4-3, doesn't matter if you don't have the talent to get it done.

I was right about marrying my deserving wife and not trying to turn an old-flame, gold-digging hoar into a housewife.

I said:

Don't sign Jason Taylor, Haynesworth or trade for McNabb.
Switch to 3-4 defense

Re: I was right when...

I drafted V. Jackson late in the WP $$$ league to come up big in the playoffs......too bad I didn't make the playoffs.
