Nah man, he's got pro bowls. He made it all-by-himself in 2004!

Players like this don't hit the market every year. Unless this trend continues, in which case, I need to re-think my cliches.

No he's not in his prime anymore, but it's possible Campbell hit his this year. For him I hope not, in the right program he could have success, but it's only fair to us and him to move on; I don't think that he could get it done under Shanahan.

I hate that this trade has me agreeing with Matt Mosely:

By trading for McNabb, Shanahan is acting as if the Redskins are prepared to win now. You don't pay an aging quarterback $11.2 million in 2010 to be a stopgap player. To me, this smacks of the old Dan Snyder way of doing business. McNabb is a blockbuster name like, say, Deion Sanders or Bruce Smith. It sounds like another expensive shortcut, albeit a highly-intriguing one.
But let's not forget McNabb finished his 2009 campaign by playing miserably in back-to-back losses to the Cowboys....
Again, the good news for Eagles fans is that McNabb isn't exactly inheriting the Fun Bunch. Santana Moss still has breakaway speed, but he needs time to get open. And let's not act like McNabb is the same guy who once kept a play alive for 14 seconds on "Monday Night Football" against the Cowboys. In Philadelphia, McNabb played the majority of his career with offensive tackles Tra Thomas and Jon Runyan. He'll likely be breaking in a rookie on his blindside in 2010 and the pedestrian Stephon Heyer will man the right side.

I mean they had their reasons.. Kolb wasn't going to extend without becoming the starter, Philly's FO is really riding on this decision here

If he lasts here 3 years we're well off. It's not crazy to think that he might, barring injury there's not much of a reason. There are plenty of people who don't think that we should get Bradford or Clausen, regardless of Tackle availability.. this lets us delay that at the very least. What other QBs were on the block? Or do people think that Campbell was really going to flourish?

I just kind of took that point for granted, figuring there was no possible way we'd be dumb enough to find out.

I don't disagree that Campbell is as good or as close to as good as he's going to get. But any situation where Jason Campbell would fail would, by definition, be the worst situation McNabb has inherited in his career. If we can land a LT at No. 4, I'll predict that McNabb will have better numbers in 2010 than Campbell did in 09, but most of that will be Shanahan and Okung/Williams/healthy Cooley, compared to having McNabb.

Losing Campbell isn't a big loss, especially if we can get a comparable pick for him. But McNabb is obviously not a big-time gain, and right now, we don't have the pick. Hopefully we worked all of our bases to open the market for Campbell, and every party can benefit from this like Wilbon said.

Still don't think he will play 13 or more games as a Redskin.

maybe shannahan's looking to get the next great QB out of Stanford....

Well here's Clayton's take...

Quote:
By acquiring Donovan McNabb for a second-round draft choice in 2010 and a third- or fourth-rounder in 2011, the Eagles may have given Redskins owner Daniel Snyder the short-term tool to move ahead of the Eagles in the NFC East race. In a quarterback-driven league, the Redskins should be able to finally score enough points to not just be a wild-card playoff contender, but to be a division winner.
Not that I agree with him completely, but I think Clayton knows a bit more about Mosley.

Re: McNabb a REDSKIN!

I'm not like about to jump off the ledge or anything, and certainly don't need to be talked into taking a few steps back, for one thing, I don't believe there's any reason to think there will be football in 2011. And I highly, highly doubt McNabb is still here (or in football) in 2012. I think we will work out a modest extension with McNabb, but he's still more or less a one-year rental.

And if we get to the playoffs, and he performs, wins some playoff games, AND Kolb wets the bed, then great, we won a trade I thought we couldn't win. Barely. For this to be a decisive win, we need to WIN the super bowl in 2010. It wasn't likely with Campbell and it isn't likely now. I do like our chances better with Okung though.

/goes to research 13-3 2006 Ravens

Re: McNabb a REDSKIN!

And, if we could get a 3rd (or 2nd) for Campbell, then why not just do that pick up an extra pick and have 3 picks in the top 80? Now we have one, still no Tackles of any use, and we are basically forced to have to trade Campbell, or cut Rex who we just picked up. If we got rid of Campbell we could go into the year with Grossman starting (ugh) and have those extra picks to grab a qb for the future. All this does is reduce our ability to draft for the future, reduce our ability to get multiple LT/RTs, bring in a qb whose numbers were slightly better than what we had, and cost us a pick next year.

But hey, OFF-SEASON CHAMPS is the Redskins Way.

Yeah, no idea what they were thinking here, especially if the conclusion was that they couldn't win with a merely above average quarterback.

Maybe they were allured by McNabb's success as a playoff quarterback and thought that, if they were handed a team that was just a tackle away from making the postseason, they'd hate to have a run killed by finding out that Campbell doesn't perform well in the postseason. But, again, there's no evidence to suggest that playoff performance is a skill divergent from game performance, and even so, how arrogant would it be to change your quarterback based on the presumption that he can get you to the playoffs but can't win in them. Then there's the part where McNabb has continually come up short.

This is a complete grasp for straws, obviously. But there's little logic in this deal, period.
