I think Peppers can be as good as he wants to be, the question is, how good does he want to be?

I'm not trying to hijack the thread but why are they moving Lorenzo Alexander to OLB? He's 300 lbs or so. If anything let him compete at guard.
If Lorenzo's 300lbs, i highly doubt he'd even make the team as a zoneblocking guard. however, i don't see how they expect him to play OLB at that weight.

From what i've read, Haynesworth will probably end up playing DE in a 3-4. I don't think Reid knows what he's talking about.

Alexander "slimmed down" to about 275 last year to play DE, so he wouldn't have much to lose to fit into the LB mold.

if you double AH then your tackles are on an island against Orakpo and Peppers which is scary...especially with a running start.

cody would be a nice pick if he slips to us. it would be interesting to see what falls to us. whoever it is we need a starter (Hell with picking a qb).

Be fun to watch Peppers and AH competing to get off the field first after they get "winded".

I really hope we don't make this move, it would be just like 2000 again. Peppers will play the role of Bruce Smith.

I'm sure that's what all the big-spenders are going to do this year. then again we could always restructure players to long-term deals.

Everytime I think of Rolle I think of that stupid Tootsie Roll song. Otherwise good player.

I don't think we'll get peppers though, so I'm not sweating it

According to Brentson Buckner, Peppers' teammate along the line for a few years there, Peppers just doesn't care about football all that much. That's why you see the flashes one game and the disappearance the next. Definitely makes me nervous.

But as long as this move doesn't preclude us from making other moves, then whatever. He just shouldn't be expected to make a major difference, that's all.

Nice read and not a surprise. The concerns are legit...

Why would signing Peppers stop them from signing Dansby or Dansby and Rolle?

If Allen and Shanahan want all three, we will get all three.

Another question though, where would this leave Andre Carter? Dude had 12 sacks last year. I can't see him playing as a down lineman in a 3-4, he needs to stay on the edge with the OLBs.

Peppers is 30. No thanks. I'd love to see us get a McClain or Spikes falling to us in the 2nd then run an Orakpo Fletcher mcclain/spikes McIntosh type LB core. I like the 3-4 defense, but I think it's going to be a terrible experiment. AH at NT? Really? He's a DE in the 3-4.

Yeah, good questions Schneed. I think Carter benefited more from AH than any other player. He got singled all season long and took advantage of it. Carter has tried that 3-4 OLB thing in SF. Didn't work out so hot.

considering the salary cap will come back next year, i dont see how we could have all those guys on the roster, in addition to haynesworth, the #4 overall pick in the draft, and whatever other big contract guys we have on the roster. with a salary cap, you can only afford to have a couple big contracts on the team. otherwise, you end up with a roster that has 4 or 5 complete studs and 50 guys who barely qualify to play in the league. id rather have 1 or two studs and 50 good NFL players. While thats an exaggerated example, you get the point. and that doesnt even begin to address the chemistry problems on the team when you're giving Peppers a "100 million dollar contract" and he's not even trying, while guys making the league minimum are playing their guts out.
