And the support team you have here just isn't helping you out. So... you need to fire Chris Meidt and Sherman Smith (probably not Stump Mitchell."

Then, Zorn will probably (and I suspect this is what the front office expects) think well shoot those are my two top lieutenants, those are my guys, without them most of this staff isn't even mine and he'll reply with "No, I'm standing by these guys. If you don't want them around then I quit."

And the Redskins will then say "We gave him every opportunity but we appreciate his decision to move forward. We wish him continued success."

or something along those lines
I am sure Zorn is loyal, but I can't see him giving up his shot at head coaching for loyalty to an assistant. To hear him and his wife talk, he has wanted to be a head coach for a long long time. I think the only thing they could strip from him that would give him pause is play calling.

My real hope is that Lewis helps open Zorn's eyes enough to see through whatever it is that may be preventing him from taking that next step.

Yeah I guess I should have been more clear that part of "forcing" Meidt and Smith out is the assumption that Zorn would need to hire an experienced, and part of Zorn's support of his guys is the knowledge that they let him remain in control. They're no real threat to him.
