Observation on Campbell

This is a little late to say now that the season is over...but its something thats been bugging me. Jason Campbell is slow in everything he does. When I watch him back in the pocket, he has no urgency to throw the ball; he takes forever to look look at his second or third target, he has a slow release on the ball, he doesnt drop back quickly, and hes not that fast of a runner (and the worst slider Ive ever seen...seriously its not that hard). I think he's got an OK arm (good strength, not so good acuracy), seems to make OK decisions when he throws the ball, but makes too many non decisions due to his slow processing. I really dont think this guy can get the job done and we need to get someone who can.

Re: Observation on Campbell

as stated in many threads Campbell is in his 3rd scheme in 5 years. His confusion reflects this IMO

I think we we all see the same thing and our best option is to give the current system a little more time

Just as frustrated as you are

I see the same thing that you do in Campbell - except instead of making excuses for him, i recognize that he's just not a good NFL QB, he's certainly too slow to be a good fit for the WCO. Hopefully we have an open competition in camp for the starting QB. If campbell wins it, then atleast he can earn it.

Re: Observation on Campbell

My main problem with Campbell is his intensity and command of the field. I do beleive that his reads are a little slow, but that will change over time as he gets used to the West Coast system and he knows where all his receivers are. He needs to work on his short passing game, he either throws the ball to hard and the receivers have a hard time catching the ball or he is completely off target on an open receiver. He needs to work on touch passing in the medium to short passing game. This brings me to my main concern: Jason needs to get a burning fire in the pit of his stomach and play with a greater intensity. So many times this year he would drop back to pass and get sacked before he could look down field, afterwards he would just get up and shuffel back to the huddle, only for the same situation to happen later. If that was Peyton Manning he would be up in the lines faces letting them know that they need to block their man. Jason acts as though he is afraid to say anything to the o-line. I'm not saying to disrespect them, but if they see the fire in his eyes and can feed off of his intensity that would ultimately make the off. play better. Jason needs to take a look at the other successful quaterbacks in this league and how they lead their teams.

Re: Observation on Campbell

Wow, what insight. Campbell is slow making reads, slow in his progression, slow release, less than ideal accuracy and isn't 'intense' enough. Is it possible to ban all new Campbell threads that don't put forth original thoughts?

I'm not dead but this team is dead to me...but now that McCloughan is here they may have new life!

Jay Gruden = Zorny McSpurrier
Kirk Cousins = Next Grossman

I think that he needs to get some better endorsement deals. GEICO and Expedia are not doing him any justice.

Here some new observations...he's tends to look frozen and seems like he's not going fast at times. His leadership lacks focus and when he throws he comes off as an old sloth.

...wait...those are old observations with new terminology...I guess this doesn't apply sorry.

JC is the 2nd or 3rd least of our problems right now. Once we solidify our line you'll be able to see who is the liability in the offense.

Re: Observation on Campbell

What else do we have to talk about?

The strange thing is, that during the four game winning streak against the Saints, Cards, Cowboys and Eagles he looked great. He was making quick decisions, going through his reads quickly and getting rid of the ball on time. He made me think I had been wrong about him and that Zorn had really turned him into a legitimate NFL QB. Sad thing is, that since that streak he has reverted to looking like the same slow-witted Campbell that so frustrated me up until that point.

He baffles me I must admit.

Davy. The way I see it is when Portis got hurt it really changed our O scheme. Not only was he throwing opposing D off with the threat of his running but was adding superior pass protection. He obviously gave JC added confidence and took the pressure off him.

After Portis injuries started we left him in the games but we were not fooling anyone. Opposing D started playing a little deeper and tighter. A weak O line was all that was needed for the decline.

Portis is the only constant. Had he stayed healthy would be talking about other things. IMO.

Nobody beats Dallas and Philly on the road and then losses to the Rams at home and the Bengals.
