Broughton is back
The Redskins have just announced that they have re-signed Nehemiah Broughton, 5-11, 255-pound fullback. He was on injured reserve all last season and spent all but the last two games of the 2006 season on the practice squad.

Re: Broughton is back
Can't really complain about our depth at RB...
Hopefully he never sees the fields as one.

Re: Broughton is back
Good move, he was solid in preseason two years ago, didn't notice him this past year, and he will provide depth at FB.

Re: Broughton is back
I liked him as a short yardage guy, but can he catch?

Re: Broughton is back
He was certainly solid against other teams' backups, but I seem to recall that he had problems with fumbling the ball. Also, wasn't he playing tailback? I don't seem to remember him playing fullback.

Re: Broughton is back
I always thought he was and FB, but it's probably only cuz he looks too big to be an RB, I think he did has some trouble with the ball, and I'm pretty sure that he is not a very good reciever out of the backfield.

He played Fullback at the beginnig of his college career. He moved to tailback his sophmore year and finshed college at that position. He was drafted as a Fullback by the Skins. He was not much of a reciever out of the backfield, but he is capable. |

Re: Broughton is back
His biggest hurdle will be to stay healthy. You can't even hope to make the team, much less see the field, if he keeps getting injured.

Re: Broughton is back
Last year Portis fumbled 6 times on 372 touches. Betts fumbled once on 114 touches.
Between the two that's 1 fumble every 70 touches. That's really not too bad. |

Re: Broughton is back
touche. this past year was better than years past. but they both have a history of coughing up the ball. if you look at the numbers, compared to the other starting backs in the league, over the past few years, portis amongst the worst at holding onto the ball. and betts, accounting for the difference in touches, is not far behind. i'll try and find some stats....

note here that in 2007, only reggie bust, i mean bush, with 8, had more fumbles than portis' 6. i'm at work so unfortunately i don't have time to find all kinds of career stats. but i am 100% certain that portis is consistently among the top 5 fumbling rb's. anyway, i'm a huge portis fan and i don't want to come down on him. i believe him to be one of the top 5 BEST rb's. all i'm saying is i hope the new rb coach's will address the fumbles. similar to how coughlin and his staff addressed tiki's fumblitis when they arrived in ny. |
