Shout out to Crazy Canuck!!
As the resident capologist here, can you tell all of us which Redskin players of consequence have contracts that are up at the end of the year?
People are worrying about resigning Smoot and that has to be an important off-season actiion. But who else will be at the end of their contract come February 2005? Who else do we have to worry about? Chris Samuels? Rod Gardner? (I'd toss him overboard like an undersized fish, but that's just me...) Tim Hasselbeck? Any defensive linemen? Any offensive linemen? Ade Jimoh?

Were pretty much gonna have to redo Samuels deal within a year. We can keep him with his current numbers next year, but that would def. mean that Smoot is gone. Personally I believe were gonna have to pick between keep Smoot or Samuels. If i were GM I would keep Samuels(especially thet way he is playing right now) and then tag Smoot next year and trade him. Then draft a corner and pass rusher, with our two first rounders.

Daseal:
TV contract soes not expire until after the 2005 season so whatever "bounce" happens in the cap due to increased TV revenue from the new contract will not affect next season's "Free Agent Festival". BTW, I really think that Corey Simon will be available from the Eagles come February/March. I think he overplayed his hand with his "holdout" and his "pouting" about not getting a long term contract extension. That's what Trotter did in Philly and you saw what Reid did with him. Simon is no Hall of Famer to be sure, but he is a whole lot better than any DT on the Skins roster.

So many people have been compared to Darrell Green, but I think that Smoot not only plays his position, but embodies the heart the DG brought into every game.

I could be totally wrong here but I think one of the reasons they drafted Wilson and Molinaro was to develop them as possible replacements for Samuels. Something tells me that Samuels will be serious trade bait this offseason--if they need to move someone to sign other players

heven and earth will be moved to keep hold of Smoot. Gibbs wants players like this and I think Sameuls will see good things happening here and really consider a renegtiation this season, an option he has never ruled out.
A quick question what kind of hit/relife would we get for loosing players like Morten, McCants and even Barlow next year? |

Samuels said he's open to redoing his deal after this season so that's a good sign at least.
Remember we came very close to dealing Smoot away? The fear was that he would be very tough to re-sign. With him dropping the Postons and his apparent dedication to the team it should be interesting to see what his contract demands will be. Especially if he ends up in Hawaii after this year, which I think he has a good shot at if he keeps playing the way he is now. |
