Re: Sean Taylor Cap Ramifications
Well...I wouldn't call someone's fandom out on that...it is premature...but I'm sure its gone through most of our minds even if for a brief moment. In the end though, you're right...Sean Taylor and his family first...salary cap second

I'm hoping the link I posted will answer the questions we may have as best as possible right now and preclude the need for any further discussion on the matter at this time.

Re: Sean Taylor Cap Ramifications
I'm not surprised this question would come up. At a time like this a lot of us are desperate for good news, myself included, and as curious as I am to learn the answer to this question I agree with the people who feel that this is a little premature. Don't worry Bill_B, we'll know soon enough. Till then

Re: Sean Taylor Cap Ramifications
You can feel terrible about Sean's death and still care about the state of the Redskins going forward. It's not an either or situation. There has not been 2 waking minutes that I have not been thinking about Sean...but at the same time I have also found time to wonder what will happen to the Redskins Organization as a result of it. I don't think doing that means that i care any less than anyone else who refuses to think football.

As far as my allegiance to the Redskins - I always have been and always will be a Redskins fan. I was hoping Taylor would make it through and hopefully play again but the senseless act took a great human being's life. |

Re: Sean Taylor Cap Ramifications
This is silly. Asking a legit question on the logistics of the NFL in no way means that you're any less sensitive or any less in mourning than anyone else.
How about a little peace in the middle east?

Re: Sean Taylor Cap Ramifications
From everything I've read, this won't have all of that much of an effect on our cap. Basically, he's already been paid most of the money from his rookie contract, it was the upcoming extension that would have been the "break the bank" deal. Correct me if I'm wrong...

Re: Sean Taylor Cap Ramifications
I think the question is entirely reasonable. It has certainly passed through my mind. After all, I´d like to see the Redskins rebound as well as possible from this tragedy. And this is what Sean Taylor would have wanted. If he had lived, what would he have wanted? He would have wanted for his teammates (his friends) to kick a**, even if he couldn´t play. Considering salary cap implications is part of the process allowing the team to repair.
Independent of the above, I would hope that Mr. Snyder will also make sure that some of what would have been paid to Sean in a new contract will be given to his girlfriend and daughter, along with the name of an honest financial advisor. |

Re: Sean Taylor Cap Ramifications
Though I am grieving like any other Redskins fan, I must admit I did think of salary cap ramifications, too, as a passing thought; though I questioned myself for even thinking of something so soon after Sena's passing it appears I am not alone.
In any event, SmootSmack's link to ESPN.com regarding the Redskins's salary cap was detailed to say the least. And as I type this, 46 comments from readers over there were debating the merits (right or wrong) of talking about such information in the wake of Sean's passing. However, this is still a business and if you look at Redskins.com they posted an article stating that the Skins have made some roster moves which was partly motivated by Sean's passing: "The Redskins have re-signed wide receiver Jimmy Farris and promoted linebacker Matt Sinclair from the practice squad, the team announced on Wednesday. Offensive lineman Kevin Sampson was released from the roster. With Sinclair on the active roster, the Redskins filled his practice squad with wide receiver Burl Toler. The Redskins had an available roster spot open due to the tragic death of safety Sean Taylor." ROD |
