F*** football right now! send the money to his poor girl friend and daughter....i dont want to watch any more football this year. We should grant relief to the players and let them all go home for the season and give time to process. Imagine if we are crying and we didnt even know him, think of how this is effecting his team and friends!

Re: Sean Taylor Cap Ramifications

I think we can all feel utterly terrible about ST and still continue to talk Redskin football. This is The Warpath after all, there isn't going to be any new developments for Sean, so at some point the topic of conversation is going to have to move beyond this tragedy, and on to it's ramifications.

I agree, this isn't a tasteless thread. A bit early for some but it's a classic "Don't read it if you don't like it" thread. It seems like an honest question, not one in which Bill B is rejoicing with some newfound money. If it's too early for you skip it and read it when you're okay with it.

Re: Sean Taylor Cap Ramifications

I have no problem with asking or answering this question. If you're grieving and don't want to deal with this right now, that's your personal way of dealing with death. If you're wondering on the logistics while at the same time grieving, then that's your personal way of dealing.

No way is right or wrong, it's all personal, so let's lay off each other.

My understanding is that this is the equivalent of someone going on IR, or PUP, for the rest of the season. This means we continue to carry him on our books this year. Meaning there is no hit to the cap in 2007.

But in 2008 we'll effectively be releasing him from our roster. He was scheduled to count $1.9 million against our 2008 cap. Now his bonuses will accelerate, and he'll count $4.2 million instead. So essentially, we take a cap hit of $2.3 million in 2008. Unless the league gives us relief or something.

I'm still crying periodically today, having a tough time with this. But there's nothing wrong with asking a legit question on logistics.

I'm not going to attack anyone. But the cap is the last thing on my mind today. I just don't give a damn and I'm not sure how anyone else could give a damn. The guy just died and people want to talk about the cap???????????????????????????????????????? Sigh.........................

Re: Sean Taylor Cap Ramifications

With all due respect, I completely disagree -- I do think there is a time for this discussion, and now is not the time. if anyone on this site had a family member die, I'd expect you'd not want to launch into a discussion about the finanacial implications of the loss within 24 hours. Do you really think it is defensible to have a thread about the cap implications within hours after Sean's death? If your answer is yes, how comfortable would you feel defending that response to a member of the Redskins? I can see way to a "don't read if you don't like it" response to another thread about Brandon Lloyd (which we're all sick about), but this is beyond the pale.

I was saying to someone this morning that it is hard to find a silver lining in any of this, but if there is something, it may be that it causes us all to realize that there are more important things that winning or losing on Sundays in the fall. The Post article about the vigil last night reinforced this, as have ALL of the comments by Sean's teammates and the Redskins organization. I have been a Redskins fan for over 30 years, but I can put that allegiance on hold for a while out of respect by a man who gave a lot to his team, who turned his life around by all accounts, and out of respect for his family and teammates. It is a sad day indeed if others are unable to do so.

I just hope the Redskins (players, coaches, and organization) makes sure that his daughter and GF/fiancee never want for anything.

To be honest I dont think that the Redskin's job. That's why people have wills. I sure hope ST had a will/trust/whatever to make sure that the millions of dollars he made playing professional football would go to help provide for his daughter's future and anyone else he wanted his money to go to.

As a sidelight, this is a reminder that anything can happen to anyone at any time so please everyone on the Warpath get to a lawyer and set up a will/trust and durable power of atty in case something happens. Your family will be thankful you did.

Very good advice.

Re: Sean Taylor Cap Ramifications

As this terrible day goes by I just wanted to post an update - I read that Sean Taylor's attorney has already handed over all his files to the police in connection with the previous ATV theft case from a couple years back and police will surely be investigating if there is any connection with the murder.

I know it won't bring him back but hopefully it will lead to the arrest of the killer(s).

This post is very disappointing and inappropriate-and yet very premature especially from a "redskins fan"
