Re: e3 happenings...
you can get in the game right now. CAVE evironments have been around a long time and can be very quick... in addition, goggles (both with monitor lenses or lasers that overlay a GUI over your RL vision) and motion sensors also work right now.
real life quake has been around since 1998 or so (q1 engine, but you can move around your RL city with your plastic gun). ISU is putting up a $4mill CAVE environment (upgrading the old one) starting this summer (super high def in ALL directions, you literally walk into a room and the floor/ceiling/walls are the monitors. they also have mist/fog based 3d displays you can use for true 3-d imaging (as well as holograms, but those are too limited to be useful). in 2004 at e3 they had goggles and motion sensors for sword duels (with broomsticks)... people kept getting too into it and snapping the "swords" though (against walls and the ground on accident). |

Re: e3 happenings...
i don't just mean goggles, i mean i have to be able to pick up stuff in the game with my hand and think it is in my hand, i don't care if I have to wear a body suit that makes me feel everything.
I think that a stripper game would sell well... |

Re: e3 happenings...
MS releasing early was the best move they could make. Its much easier for them to launch new consoles ince they're very close to PC architecture, and that also makes them easier to design for.
as for sony, they always pull lame tricks like that at e3. usually they run pre-rendered cgi and call it "actual gameplay." actually runnning their demos on a hidden 360 is pretty funny though. |
