hey, everyone can get stiff armed by the best goddamned back in football from time to time. Our D played great in that game, and gave the offense plenty of opportunities to take the game out of reach, just like its been happening most of the year. Our offense has to start putting teams away. We can play with any team in the league, and win, if our offense doesnt lay down at the end of the game. You can't expect your D to be perfect when they're on the field the entire fourth quarter (aginst the 2nd, or 3rd, most explosive offense in the league) because we're too stupid to make a first down. We should be playing like we're behind the whole time and be taking shots for points (instead of running 3 times against the leagues #1 run defense) fifty goddamned times in a row. You know, I'm all about having a class organization and everything, but we can't be too polite to kick someone's ass when we have them down. We cannot keep letting up on offense. I don't know what the hell is wrong there, but if it can get fixed we can run the table and possibly still make the post season... otherwise we are screwed and are still not playing with killer instincts and don't deserve any accolades, much less postseason play. |

Re: I'm Done Watching The Skins This Year
here's my 2 cents...take it or leave it.
Expectations are always high for the Redskins, even thought it's almost been 15 years since the last Lombardi Trophy waltzed into our hearts. We go into training camp telling ourselves that we can't get too overconfident on this team. Then they go and win 3 games...which is the worst thing that could have happened. Expectations sore, people talk playoffs, and Kornheiser wants to start the bandwagon. Then it happens...the Skins lose 6 of 8. Heartbreakers to the Broncos, Bucs, Raiders and Chargers, where we have the game in the bag, only to lose. Unfortunately, this is the same team that started the year. Brunell is having a solid year at QB, Portis is going to get 1000 yards, and finally broke his TD curse. Santana Moss is solidifying himself as a #1 receiver. The defense, while not as good as last year, is still keeping the Skins in games. Carlos Rogers and Mike Sellars have emerged as key contributers, and LaVar is now in GW and Gibbs' good graces. However, injuries, lack of improvement, and mistakes cost the Skins dearly. The turnover ratio is huge. A wet behind the ears QB beat the secondary badly. Other teams now know to blanket Moss and make Brunell beat them with the other options. Our defense, great at times, has hurt the Skins when it matters most. Unfortunately, all these things happen. At 5-6, the Skins are by no means out of it. The Skins could still win the NFC East, but have to execute, and peform at a higher level. They are capable, but will they? Win out, and 10-6 may just get them in the playoffs. It's your own preogative to either not watch or whatever, however, through thick and thin, Skins fans are Skins fans because they love the team. Hold your head high, and sit on that couch, bar stool, stadium seat, and cheer on the best goddamn football team out there.

Re: I'm Done Watching The Skins This Year
What's so depressing for me was that this was that season-ending game where hope finally disappears. Later this year than in past seasons, sure, but that just made the pang that much more intense. You know, you nurture these teams through free agency and training camp, you read about the practices and the new players and attitudes, you listen to the more vocal leaders earnestly communicate high expectations, you argue with friends about why the media expectations are too low, why they are just kicking Snyder when he's down, you trust in Gibbs, and although you maybe don't tell people so as not to look foolish, deep down inside you think that they could be really really good - that this could be, The Year. And then they break your heart. The bottom drops out. And a year's worth of emotional attachment fueled by a lifetime's worth of passionate fandom is suddenly left without an outlet. Its just like breaking up with a girl. Is that it, you ask? All that time invested and now its just, over?
Its a tough feeling that is only made worthwhile by the comparative high of winning. Unfortunately, us Skins fans have been getting shafted on that for quite sometime. But we'll be back next year and the year after that. Why I don't know, but that's just the way we are. |

Re: I'm Done Watching The Skins This Year
Now here's my thoughts:
This crap has got to stop. I go into every 4th qtr. just knowing we're gonna lose---and I hate feeling this way. So what if we did beat Denver, Tampa(God that still hurts) Bay, and Oakland. Would we be a strong playoff team? Standings yes--actual gameplay NO!!! What has to be done? Do we start from scratch like the 49ers? Cause this rebuilding on the fly stuff aint working.... I get clowned on cause I like the skins every sunday, so what do you think the rest of the league is doing when they see the skins on their schedule.....You see Champ left, now why is that.....Here's a thought, move Lavar to DE.....We don't need high picks to have a successful draft. I want to see big ass 300lb linemen in camp next year. If they are around the mid 250's they better be fast....and mean!!!!!.....no killer instinct...I haven't seen a halftime adjustment since before the Giants game.... Now dont get me wrong, skins fan 4 life---but these past 15 years are killing me. I just had to vent and my CPU wont laugh back!!! |

Re: I'm Done Watching The Skins This Year
i hope you are joking, i am not gonna question your fan(ness???,) because no way anyone on this site is not a fan, we have been a suckass team for some time now and we all stick with this team so don't worry about me saying you are a fair weather fan but why not just watch the games without playoffs in mind and enjoy, sit back. I wish i could do that, just not care and sit back but i just can't, i prolong my devistation as we are still statistically in it. Had we been out I could just give up and enjoy but being in it makes me have hope, just like all the other years, and that hope has always been broken.
Last year same f'n situation, we are in it(maybe) if we win out our last 5, no garantees but the way things are shaping out it seems as if we have a GREAT chance as long as we win out, we have 3 division games, 2 at home! and we must win it all. which two games do we lose, the two division games at home, in heart breakers and had we won them we would be in the playoffs. week 15 i gave up hope, it was in the middle of the cowboys game and we still had a shot with 7 wins, remember?, as long as TB won, they didn't they lost and that broke the season, i was devistated even though we had such a little shot. I said on the phone to vishskins "ok we are gonna beat dallas and i won't be too upset " and in that sentence the bomb to crayton goes up and i fell into a bigger whole of sadness. Maybe you should stop watching because that was one of my lowest points in my redskins history. I hope we don't repeat that again, PLEASE DONT REPEAT THAT AGAIN. Some people, regardless of if they are die hard or just semi-fans, can say oh, oh well there is always NEXT YEAR, we will do what we have to in the offseason. I just can't do that, some people just can't do that, i can't sit down and not watch a game if we have a chance. We have a chance. We have to win 5 in a row, the bears are on a what 7 game streak the vikings on a 4 game streak, we can do it and there is still a fighting chance |

Re: I'm Done Watching The Skins This Year
we still have a shot and 2 easier teams coming up... our schedule is really harsh, but we've figured out how to score in the red zone (unlike last year), but we still can't get 3rd and 2 on the ground. TE passes are the only reliable short yardage play we've got. We need to get that fixed,

Re: I'm Done Watching The Skins This Year
if we win only 9 games and one of those being the cowboys we will still have a chance to make the playoffs, in other words if we only lose the giants. ONLY IF
1. Cowboys lose giants, us and carolina(very possible, also KC is in there)--they go 9-7 and we have tie breaker!!!! 2. Falcons 3 losses to @Bears @Tampa @Carolina or Carolina---they go 9-7 and we have a better conference record!!!! 3. Vikings lose 2 to @Lions, Rams, @Ravens, Steelers or Bears---they go 9-7 we win tie breaker 4. Eagles lose to us-- we win tie breaker at 9-7 5. Rams lose to us-- we win tie breaker at 9-7 If all those things happen we make playoffs at 9-7 if we only lose to the Giants. If we lose to the boyz boyz can win out exept for the skins game and giants have to lose to philly and washington and we win tiebreaker or they could lose to KC or @ Oakland EXTREMELY UNPROBABLE, i say if we only lose to the gints we have a 20% shot Last edited by BigSKINBauer; 11-28-2005 at 07:34 PM. |

Honestly, I'm one of the guys who is right on the border, I still think we can be 7-6 in two weeks and being seriously talking about playoff scenerios. I'll still watch the team no matter what, but I dont really care if people would rather do somthing else on a Sunday. Thats their personal choice, and honestly, if I didnt have the Sunday Ticket, I dont know if i'd go out of my way to watch this team until I knew they were gonna play a complete game. If someone is sick of getting their heart ripped out every week, i dont really blame em. Like BSB said, theres no way you're on this site and not a true fan. Not after the last 14 years.

Re: I'm Done Watching The Skins This Year
I'm NOT done watching the skins this year!
Every one that is or that has given up, please join the colts website now! Colts are 11-0. Perfect to jump on a bandwagon. For me I'm happy Gibbs is back and happy that in all but 1 of our 6 losses we've been in the game and made it competitive. Sure you can complain about the 4th Q offensive points or the refs, but can't people see? We're so much closer than we've been since he left. We have consistancy for the FIRST time in almost 15 yrs! We can play with ANY team (but the Giants so far!) Let's not give up on Gibbs, the Redskins or the future. Gibbs is no dummy. Sure he's not in the Superbowl on his second season, well not yet (even though remote, it's stilll a possibility). But he's made leaps and bounds in his second year. We are as true as a team can be in 2005 in the world of TO's and such. Keep the faith and GO SKINS!!!

Agree, you are in field goal range and you tackle the guy from behind..nothing to do with heart, just dumb. Team needs to learn how to finish off teams at the end.

Re: I'm Done Watching The Skins This Year
Hey Folks - Cheer up, it ain't over yet. The Giants and Cowboys did us a big favor in losing and believe it or not the Skins are still in the hunt for the NFC east!!!!! One game at a time.
Btw - Living in San Diego now, it was tough to watch that game .... I almost skipped it cause I didn't know who the hell to yell for. I definitely didn't see any lack of heart by the Skins. They have all the fight in the world, and the Defense never, ever gives up. The offense still needs work though. |
