I picked "Turk" Edwards to be my first Historic Redskins weekly feature for one reason and it's is you need to know about this guy and others to understand better the proud Redskins tradition. To quote Bob Marley who was a big Redskins fan "In this great future you can't forget your past". Having said that each week I will bring up the name and details about a great player or Coach or owner from the Redskins past. I would ask that you please just read about this player as a show of respect and if you know more or can google more and add to the thread please do. Remember to think about these guys in the context of the game when they played.

Albert Glen Edwards -- much better known as “Turk” first gained prominence as an All-America tackle at Washington State and as a star on the Cougars' 1931 Rose Bowl squad. When he finished college a year later, he received offers from three National Football League clubs and he chose the highest bid –- $1,500 for 10 games from the newly organized Boston Braves, a team that would later take the name Boston Redskins and then move to Washington in 1937.

Tail Boner?On September 22, 1940, Washington Redskins captain Turk Edwards went out for the coin toss at the start of a game. As he trotted back to the bench, he caught a cleat in the turf and one of his knees buckled. The future Hall of Famer never played professional football again.
