Re: Mike Williams and Troy Williamson
Ivne - You make good points, but I should have expanded a bit. I think that the 5 yard rule will both help and hurt Mike Williams. Because of his tendency to push off to create all that seperation he gets, he could get a lot of offensive pass interference calls against him. He was a big name playing at a big school. He got every call in the world (just like the Lakers did a few years ago.) In the NFL the corners will be able to play him more physical and won't be completely dominated like many of the college corners he faced.
I think he'll be good -- but I don't see a big first year. Out of all the receivers this year, he's the best one in my eyes. Edwards is a very close 2nd. However, had he gotten into the draft last year he woulda fallen below fitz/Williams. That's just my feeling. He'd be a GREAT red zone target (assuming we get the balls to throw on the opponents side of the field) and he has amazing hands. I think he could be a great player, don't get me wrong. Just saying I can see him having a bit of trouble adjusting. However, very few people can get used to how the NFL works in the first year especially at the WR position. |
