DON'S week 6 picks
THE DON'S Crystal Ball WEEK 6 PICKS By DonCanabis CP Analyst/Godfather First off, I want to apologize to my readers. I made a commitment to you guys, and even though life gets in the way of what we truly like, there's no excuse for it and it won't happen again. What a crazy week, wasn't it? Green Bay, Atlanta, and Buffalo lost games that they should have won, and we lost two more QBs this week. I don't know, you guys, but doesn't it seem that the injuries have gone up this year? Especially the season/career-ending ones? I think that all these new rules to "protect" the players are the reason we see more injuries. Players don't want to get flagged and fined, so instead of going with their instincts, they hesitate and give a bad hit that ends up hurting them. But it just might be a crazy year, that's all. On with the picks... Tennessee at Tampa Bay -3 Ovr/Und 38 Even though they lost, Tampa looked good. They lost their second RB in two weeks, and now we might see the reemergence of R. Williams in the league. Hey, if Testaverde can come from the ashes every year and start right away, don't think this won't happen. Tennessee wins ugly; they have a very good defense, like they do every year, and even with the mistakes of their QB, they come out on top. Not this week! Straight: Tampa Bay Spread: Tampa Bay Ovr/Und: Under Philadelphia at New York Jets 3.5 Ovr/Und 42.5 If New York had any defense that could put pressure on, I might think differently; but also Philadelphia is getting their best player back after a week's rest. This could be the last game of Chad in a Jets' uniform, so be sure to Tivo it! Straight: Philadelphia Spread: Philadelphia Ovr/Und: Over St. Louis at Baltimore -9.5 Ovr/Und 37 Gus is ageless—I mean, he has been in the NFL as long as I can remember and still can produce! That offense scored almost the same amount of points in one week that they have thus far in the whole season. Paging Baltimore's offense, paging Baltimore's offense: would you please show up? Don't you think that giving a 9.5 spread to a team that could only score 9 points the previous week and is averaging 17.6 points per week is a bit too much? Vegas, really? Straight: Baltimore Spread: St. Louis Ovr/Und: Under Cincinnati at Kansas City 3 Ovr/Und 42 The Chiefs are who we thought they were!!!! Is L.J. even playing (because we haven't seen him yet)? I know how hard it is to win in Arrowhead, but even with the bad defense Cincinnati has, they can take this game. Straight: Cincinnati Spread: Cincinnati Ovr/Und: Over Minnesota at Chicago -5 Ovr/Und 37 Man, how important was last week's game against Green Bay? It could really become a turning point for this team. T. Jackson, it seems, will be able to play, which means Minnesota will lose. Straight: Chicago Spread: Chicago Ovr/Und: Over Miami at Cleveland -4.5 Ovr/Und 45.5 You think it can't get any worse for Miami, and then Green gets hurt. I wouldn't be surprised if this team doesn't win a game this year! Cleveland has been a good surprise: they fight, and they don't fear anyone. I hope the Lewis injury isn't too bad, because it could really hurt them. Straight: Cleveland Spread: Cleveland Ovr/Und: Under Washington at Green Bay -3 Ovr/Und 40.5 UPSET OF THE WEEK Game of the Week #2: I'm liking what I'm seeing of this soup kid, especially now that they are letting him play and not protecting him so much. The Randle El injury scares me, but it has more to do with Moss not being 100%. Until Green Bay finds a running game, they're going to lose some games. Straight: Washington Spread: Washington Ovr/Und: Over Houston at Jacksonville -6.5 Ovr/Und 37 Jacksonville's defense is back at a top level. Houston is still way too hurt on offense. I like this Schaub kid, but he can't do miracles. Straight: Jacksonville Spread: Jacksonville Ovr/Und: Over Carolina at Arizona -5 Ovr/Und 40.5 The 80-year-old QBs game...Vinny against Warner, who knew? I just don't think a player can come out to a team and in three days learn the playbook and get in sync with the players. Straight: Arizona Spread: Arizona Ovr/Und: Over Oakland at San Diego -10 Ovr/Und 44 San Diego finally showed up; let's see if they can do it for two weeks. Culpepper has had one more week with that offense. That should help, but he's playing a faster defense in San Diego. Straight: San Diego Spread: San Diego Ovr/Und: Over New England at Dallas 6 Ovr/Und 53 Game of the Week, no question about it! New England is better coming into this game, but Dallas showed they can get out of their worst performance and still find a way to win as a team. I think it will be tough...it will be high-scoring and a really good game to watch! Straight: New England Spread: Dallas Ovr/Und: Over New Orleans at Seattle -6.5 Ovr/Und 43 UPSET OF THE WEEK It isn't a good sign when your Head Coach benches your Pro Bowl QB, it just isn't! Also, they lost their best player for the year (if not forever) in Strong...if New Orleans can't win this game, I won't pick them ever again this year. Straight: New Orleans Spread: New Orleans Ovr/Und: Under New York Giants at Atlanta 3.5 Ovr/Und 44 The NFC East is starting to look better each week. Harrington hasn't played that badly, but the reality is that this team sucks, and by team I mean "coach"...I'm sorry, but the image of Umenyiora, Kiwanuka, and Strahan against a hurt Atlanta O-line is music to my ears (sorry about the mixed metaphor!). Prediction: the record is over—13 sacks. Straight: New York Spread: New York Ovr/Und: Over Hot Picks Philadelphia Cincinnati Washington Arizona Over (New York) New York I'm still 59% overall for the season despite some very crazy weeks! And if it turns out any other way, I'll deny I said this! |
