Furthermore, what are poddles? And I don't recall these dogs volunteering to be starved so their "hungrier" come fight time, or have shards of glass rubbed in their fur, or even agree to these fights anyway.

And I don't know of any NFL players that are shot after they lose, or electrocuted, or have their neck snapped. And so on.
