Redskins FF preview

Washington Redskins

Top player in 2006

Chris Cooley, TE: Santana Moss had just about the same numbers and Ladell Betts was terrific after Clinton Portis went down with an injury, but Cooley's numbers made him one of the top tight ends in the game last season. Not many players at his position catch 57 balls for 734 yards and six touchdowns. In fact, just six of them do, as Cooley ranked seventh amongst NFL tight ends in yardage and fourth in touchdowns.
Top sleeper in 2006

Ladell Betts: What a tremendous boost Betts was for this team last season. Portis is obviously Washington's main option, so when he went down, many thought the team would be lost without him. Well, that surely wasn't the case, as Betts ended the year with 1,599 total yards and six touchdowns, 1,154 of those yards coming on the ground. In fact, he had a string of five straight 100-yard games at the end of the season, topping out at 171 in Week 14 against the Eagles.
Top flop in 2006

Santana Moss, WR: The top receiver in '05 was one of the bigger disappointments of the season, catching just 55 balls for 790 yards and six touchdowns. This coming off his career-year explosion of 84 catches and 1,483 yards just a season before. Many an owner was bit in the rear by picking him, with the insertion of Jason Campbell as the team's quarterback halfway through the season the final straw.
Top off-season moves

London Fletcher, LB: One of the top IDP performers in recent memory has changed teams for the second time in six years, coming over from the Bills after five extremely successful seasons there. The undersized, but productive, middle linebacker has averaged more than 140 tackles, 3 1/2 sacks and 1 1/2 interceptions the past seven years and looks to add to those numbers anchoring the Skins' up and coming unit.

LeRon Landry, SS: The team's first round draft choice will team up with Sean Taylor to form one of the fastest and most-feared safety combinations in the game. It'll also be one of the youngest, meaning this position could be a staple in Washington's defense for years to come. Receivers beware.
