Three ex-Gophers go in later rounds

Anthony Montgomery knew that two of the NFL's 32 teams were particularly interested in his services, Green Bay and Washington. Problem was, the Packers wanted him to switch positions.
Montgomery would have done it, but it appears he won't have to.
The former Gophers defensive lineman was drafted by the Redskins on Sunday with the 21st pick of the fifth round, 153rd overall. Montgomery said he has 'no doubt at all' he'll make the team.
'I've been playing football for a long time,' he said, 'and this is my opportunity.'
Montgomery was one of three ex-Gophers to be selected in the late rounds of the NFL draft on Sunday. Center Greg Eslinger was taken by Denver with the 29th pick of the sixth round, and guard Mark Setterstrom was picked by St. Louis in the seventh and final round.
When you add first-round pick Laurence Maroney, taken 21st overall by New England on Saturday, that's four Gophers drafted over the weekend, matching the school record for a seven-round draft.
Montgomery visited Green Bay and Washington, but only the Redskins were interested in him as a defensive tackle. The Packers wanted him to move to offensive tackle. Montgomery said he talked to coach Joe Gibbs on Sunday and will travel to Washington on Thursday for a weekend minicamp.
'When I visited, he told me they were really high on me,' Montgomery said, 'and when I talked to coach Gibbs today, he said, 'I told we liked you. Congratulations.' '
Gibbs said his defensive line coach, Greg Blache, was high on Montgomery from the start.
'Greg's a very hard person to impress,' he said, '(Montgomery) played very well as a senior, very well with his hands, and we feel he fits in here and is our kind of person. When Greg says he fits our scheme and he likes him, we get excited about it.'
