lots of missing nuance. part of Hamas's rise was due to fatah (the previous ruling party) being super corrupt, and the main selling point was that they wouldn't be. A lot of the people there are also tired of living in something of a prison-state. Not saying there aren't concerns (Hamas has always been pretty okay with violence against civilians, not looking for coexistence, etc), but part of the reason they're in power is because of how disliked Israeli policies towards Palestinians are there and that no one seems to be doing much about it. (Also, egypt and jordan really DO NOT want palestinian refugees, and Iran likes using them, but doesn't actually care about them).
the cause/effect chain goes all the way back to the founding. it's interconnected and messy. |
