Merriman goes right to my point, he was drafted at pick #11.
There's no reason you can't get an impact player at a spot like 11. It's not like pick 6 is the only place we'll be able to find an impact player in this draft. There will be some impact players available at all stages of round 1. It's just a matter of identifying who they are, and being willing to have the patience to let them fall down the board to us. That's certainly the hard part of this whole thing; but trading down would be worth the payoff if it means we have a chance to add 2 or 3 players at positions of need rather than just 1.
