This has to be taken into account especially when the defense is not forcing turnovers which would contribute to better field position and not having to spend so much time in long drives in the beginning of the game.

I understand your points and they are valid. But, perhaps the defense wouldn't have to force turnovers if our offense wasn't coughing so many up. We've still got a defense that the majority of head coaches would kill for. As for our offense, I'm not so sure how many coaches would trade their offense for ours.
