Agree with this. Hopefully JJ is our starter and takes his game to a new level with Carriker rotating in, depending on his return to health.

Wait, I thought Jackson was already re-signed? Or is that what you meant...

I'm still curious if Jackson could transition well into ILB alongside Riley after Fletcher retires. His skill advantage seems to be along the lines of athleticism and football IQ, as opposed to pure pass rushing like Orakpo. If he could become a reliable tackler he'd be a gem inside.

I was wondering about that too little while ago. But I'm not sure if he has enough speed to cover some TEs and RBs though.

Why would you even begin to consider trading Orakpo? He doesn't command a large salary, he's young, and when healthy is probably our best pass rusher.

I think BHA has a solid point. Orakpo is (still) better suited as a hand in the dirt 4-3 DE. He's not terribly good in space, and doesn't have the football IQ RJ has, even with much more experience.

If Orakpo has a good year and a 4-3 defense wants to pay a premium for his services we have to entertain the idea.

Orakpo thinks he's one of the leagues elite pass rushers. Unless he has an awful year, he won't be cheap to resign. Jackson showed promise as a starter last year. If he keeps it up, he'll get a starting job somewhere. I guess my feeling is that Jackson could be 80% of the payer orakpo is, but he'd come at a 25% of the cost. Why but grey goose when pinnacle tastes almost is good but is half the price?

At his age a good healthy year could warrant and 2nd + 5th or somewhere in that neighborhood.. paying the price to re-sign him prior could be the hitch in the giddy up

Rak is in his last year of his current deal, so if he has a good year we can't trade him.

Yes sir, JJ was starting to show a little of his pre-ACL skills towards the end of last season.
With Carricker, Jenkins, S. Bowen, along with Golston, Doug Worthington and late season practice squad signing Phillip Merlling we are pretty big and deep at DE. I like the big kid Worthington, in the 6 games Worthington was active he was not pushed around and held his own. If he can continue to improve I would not be shocked to see Golston the odd man out of this group.

Wr is another position a possible return to health will hopefully show up well on the stat sheet in 2013. Morgan and Hankerson played injured most of last season. They still flashed some skill at times. Aldrick Robinson also was dinged and he looks promising as well. This is a good young group.

I think BHA said trade mid-season. Anything wrong with that?

It's just not going to happen but it doesn't hurt to dream I guess.

Hmmmmm it could be a smart preemptive move. Not sure how Orakpo feels about playing out of position so to speak, but per his agent and contract talks the following year they'd be pretty smart to "market" Rak as a premier 4-3 DE pass rusher who's been poorly utilized. And then we see a 1st round pick just walk away without getting anything, let alone pretty underwhelming production during his time here.

A "forced" mid-season trade, especially if a 4-3 defense is desperate, might be the smartest move even if all we can get is say a 3rd round pick.

Like I said, keep dreaming.

We're not going to trade our best pass rusher mid season if he's having a good enough year to warrant a high pick.

I'm lost...you mean compensation pick if/when he walks away?
