Re: Ravens at Redskins Post Game Thread (RG3 MRI Result-Sprained Knee)

Word is that RGIII has a grade 1 sprain, that means he might be able to play next week:

According to the Web site, a Grade 1 sprain involves stretching and micro-tearing of ligament tissue. A Grade 2 sprain involves partial tearing of the ligament and mild instability of the joint when it is tested. A Grade 3 sprain involves severe or complete tearing of the ligament and significant joint instability. “The more ligaments that are involved means the more severe the injury,” the web site notes

According to the National Athletic Trainers’ Association, an athlete with a first-degree sprain of a joint “may be able to continue to play or will usually return to play in a few days.” An athlete with a second-degree sprain could need a brace and usually will miss 1-4 weeks, according to the NATA literature, and an athlete with a third-degree sprain of a joint could need a brace or faces possible surgery and could be sidelined for three weeks to 12 months depending on the course of treatment.

How bad is Robert Griffin III’s injury? His status for Sunday remains unclear

I'm tempted to keep RG3 on the sidelines for this Sunday, especially if it is a wet, snowy field in Cleveland next week

I voted for Richard Crawford because he was the player who put the Redskins in the position to win the game on that 64 yard punt return in OT. Forbath is a close 2nd, going 3/3 and nailing the game winner.

Safety, CB, RT, could all use an upgrade. If there's a chance of getting a good pass rushing DE, you need to get him. Orakpo or not, that would help the secondary a lot. I still have some hope that Jenkins can be that guy but you can't count on it. This was basically his first year after coming off a major injury his rookie season.

I say RGIII for moving us close to scoring, Cousins and Garcon for scoring TD, Cousins for converting 2 pts. (without this there's no Crawford return) and finally the officials for overturning the Paul fumble (biggest call of the game).

Re: Ravens at Redskins Post Game Thread (RG3 MRI Result-Sprained Knee)

A Grade 1 sprain? and he took himself out of the game? What a f'ing loser. He's clearly not very tough and, in the olden days of football yore, he would have been called a pantywaist and cut before they got in the showers.

Where's the toughness ...

Alternatively:

A Grade 1 sprain? and the Coaching staff let him take himself out of the game? What a f'ing losers. Clearly we are coddling players and the coaches and trainers have no clue how to deal with injuries. In the olden days of football yore, a real training staff would have given him a shot of morphine in the leg and shoved him back on the field.

Where's the decisiveness ...

I feel the same way. We get a franchise QB, we get a franchise RB, we finally have a decent kicer, the coaching staff re-designs a scheme and turned it into a whole new scheme that defenses will have to adjust to, and I'm sure there are still people out there who are in the "Fire Shanahan" catagory.

I'm of the mind set to have RG3 as back up only if needed. Give Cousins the nod, let him have a full week of practicing with the first stringers to get timing down, and make sure we use the plays best suited for Cousins. He might not be able to out run people but he should be able to roll out, make all the throws, and utilize the option in order to buy time for WR's.

3rd Option: RG3 played his but off and does not want to take any more attention away from the rest of the team so since no one will listen to him when he says pay attention to RB Morris, RG3 has decided to fake a knee injury so others can get some praise.

Always look at the positive.

Shanahan and Co. delivering in Year 3 - NFC East Blog - ESPN

Quote:
The issue of Griffin's durability is a topic for today, since he hurt his knee running the ball late Sunday and had to come out of the game. But he's going to run and he has to run in order to be as good as he can be. Injuries can happen at any time, and I don't think it's fair to label this one the result of a bad decision by Griffin or his coaches. They have put him in the best situations possible, consistently, all year long, to keep him healthy and successful, and successful they have been. Gimmicky or not, the purpose of an offense is to score points. Only six teams in the league have scored more points this year than the Redskins have.
Preach on Mr. Graziano, preach on.

Or ... to paraphrase my favorite WP'er ...Strong Article.
