Firing a head coach, ultimately, is mostly a symbolic gesture. Judging the "winningess" of team requires more weight to be put on the current talent on the team, "reputation", and recent history, etc.
Their recent history is they haven't won a playoff game since 1993, and they just finished last in the worst division in football.

*edit-sorry I quotted the wrong person

It's really amazing to think that two years ago none of these guys were on the team. Now we have one of the best front 7s in football.

Anybody know how the visit with Demetrius Bell went? He would be a great addition and he is only 27 yrs old.

He left without a contract. Supposedly he's using us to drive his price up with the bills

Even though, it has yet to translate on the field. The combination of Bruce Allen, Mike Shanahan, and even Dan Snyder has made major improvements in the redskins personnel.

RGIII will bring with him what it's going to take for the redskins to get over the hump for the redskins players talent to consistently start showing on the field.

No I mean we have a shot if things don't work out with the bills, but it doesn't seem likely we get Bell. Id give us a 35% chance we get Bell.

How many of these guys are above league average at their position. Any of them?

If we had to pick the best guy out of that group, who would we take? Cofield? Jenkins? Jenkins has yet to play a snap, but might very well be our best DL-man.

I would have much rather spent Carriker's money+ a couple mil more on a NT or Eric Winston if there was ever really any interest.

I would say Carriker, Bowen, and Cofield are above average. I see Jenkins becoming special as well.

Hmmm. Maybe they'll show that on the field this year. Second year in the something or something should be good for something.

Bowen and Carriker without question. In Cofield's case, the group of "nose tackles" is so small and exclusive that it's hard to say he was below average. I thought he performed adequately.

Cofield was below average as far as as all defensive tackles go, but that might have just been an effect of the scheme, i.e. he's doing the job of two men in a 4-3 scheme. Same with Carriker and Bowen I suppose, although Bowen wore down considerably after a hot start. He wasn't good at all when we had that long losing streak.

I wouldn't pick any of the five as not NFL caliber. I think it's just mostly a group of available guys, and Jenkins, the prospect who hasn't played a snap yet.
