And Jerry Jones will find that out when Carr is getting scorched consistently. For what it's worth, they could have agreed to a one year deal to re-sign Terrence Newman.

Flynn was also a backup last year, which would make it very remarkable that anyone who didn't finish the year as the no. 1 guy in their organization isn't finding a no. 1 job this year. If he goes from GB to Miami/Seattle, that's one guy moving up the chain, and Henne to Seattle/Jacksonville might make a second.

Last year Tavaris Jackson and Rex Grossman got starting jobs. They had to compete, sure, but the competition wasn't exactly mind numbing. It seems inarguable to say the market isn't strong as it was last year, at least . And I would go as far as saying that there's basically no interest in (defined by competition to sign) capable QBs.

You and I don't disagree on the facts but we do disagree on their meaning.

Your original point was that there is not a shortage of quality QB's in the NFL. Yet by your own admission:
1) Jackson and Grossman both were starters last year
2) as many as 6 teams seek rookie starters this year

To me these facts say that there is, in fact, a shortage of quality quarterbacks in the NFL. Otherwise things would shake out differently. If there were no shortage of quality QB's, every team in theory could have quality QB play, but we know that this is not the case.

As for Flynn, the fact that he is not being sought by many teams as an instant starter may reflect the fact that Kolb, Cassel, and others have failed to make the backup-to-starter transition smoothly. If this perspective is correct, it further supports the argument that there is a shortage of quality QBs in the NFL.

“@granthpaulsen: He'll be 32 on opening day. 8-yr vet has missed 2 games since '05. RT @JasonLaCanfora #Browns announce release of stalwart G Eric Steinbach"

He's older than shanny wants but with a clean injury background I think he could be a good short term stop gap

Re: 2012 NFL Free Agency Tracker

Scout take on Carr:

"Well, first and foremost, the Cowboys had a massive need at the position and considering the weapons in the NFC East, getting a reputable CB was a must. I like Carr. He is still young, plays physical and can play man or zone coverage, although I think he is better as a zone guy. However, I also think he benefited a great deal from having [Brandon] Flowers on the other side of him in KC, as the Chiefs often put Flowers on the opponent’s WR1."

Cowboys greatly over payed for a zone cover guy, not too bright.

Re: 2012 NFL Free Agency Tracker

i think a lot of WRs and CBs got too much money... including garcon.

fletch, winston, merriweather, and nelson would be good adds and i'd probably call it a day at that point. we're stuck with hall for now.

I would imagine that the Jags have to over pay offensive talent to come play for them. Other than MJD its a pretty bare cupboard.

I agree, but not because i dont think Robinson is a pretty good player, because of the kid throwing him the ball. I am so glad we did not draft Gabbert. Everytime i watched him play he looked god awful. Him along with Clausen were the two worst QB's i have ever seen play. Gabbert looks lost out on the field and any sense of pressure and he folds.
