The video is legit (according to Mort)

While I agree with not going after the short term fix according to Mike Jones the Redskins will basically tell Peyton that they'll be able to fix those problems through free agency and possibly the draft.

Quote:
The Redskins are expected to tell Manning of their plan to spend freely during free agency. With more than $40 million of cap space to work with, not only could Washington afford Manning, but the team also is expected to aggressively pursue an elite receiver – Vincent Jackson, Marques Colston and Pierre Garcon are expected targets – according to people familiar with the Redskins’ plans.

The Redskins also plan on bolstering their offensive line. They’re likely to add a right tackle this offseason, and could add a guard as well.

Re: Colts Officially Release Peyton Manning (QB Thread #11)

Why do some people assume that signing Manning is a short term fix?

We can continue with whatever plan the FO has to rebuild the team.

Peyton Manning just accelerates and elevates the quality of QB play and allows time to groom/try out several different QBs of the future while Peyton plays for 2-3 or more years.

We better not get Colston or Garcon. Garcon can't be relied on to catch the ball and is rather unproven where as Colston is a rich mans Gaffney.

If we break the bank on a #1 wide receiver, get a legitimate one.

4. he would not play if he thought he could get injured permanently
5. this is not a money motivated move for him

I can't believe I am saying this, but I want the old Danny boy running the show on this negotiation.
Manning's not going to go to the highest bidder. He's going to go to the best situation. We're not even close to being in the running. Cards, Fins, Broncos, Jets and even Seattle are all more attractive options. No chance he wants to play in the NFC East.

If we get Manning, why not make a play for Blackmon at #6?

How do you know this???

PM himself was quoted as saying he hasn't even thought about where he would end up playing....

BINGO, you can add a vet and the best WR in the draft.

[QUOTE=Dirtbag59;893348]While I agree with not going after the short term fix according to Mike Jones the Redskins will basically tell Peyton that they'll be able to fix those problems through free agency and possibly the draft.[/QUOTE

My POV comes from a thinking that signing PM is not a short term fix. It may be a short term fix to the QB position, but on the other hand if we get 4 or 5 solid years out of him then it really isn't that short as an average NFL career is 3 years.

Signing Peyton, gives us options in the draft. This is a deep draft and we can get some players out of this draft. We can grab a QB at some point ( by that I mean anywhere we please in the 1st to 7th round). We can trade back with our 6th pick and this would give the team more of a chance on hitting on some players. With more younger players we increase the chances of gaining quality players for this team.

Trading away the top picks in the next two drafts and 2 other picks for one guy who may be great, good, average, or just plain Ryan Leaf just doesn't seem really smart for a long term fix.

Of course he hasn't. I mean the guy only watches infinity-billion hours of game film a week so he can have 5 different plans for virtually every look the defense throws at him. Not to mention he lives and breathes football and probably dreams about dreaming of football when he goes to sleep.......so yeah it's plausible.

i dont see these spots as more attractive than we are. the cards dont have much cap room, they do have a stud WR in fitzgerald. the fins have a good defense, and Marshall at WR. the broncos have a ton of cap room but arent normally big spenders so it might be hard for them to land manning. Jets have a loose cannon as a coach, if people dont think manning and the shanahans cant coexist, how could rex ryan and manning. the seattle team we beat this year, they have less offensive weapons than we do IMO. yes they have lynch but not much else.

HAHA. In an alien world, I'd love for him to just come out and say what his ideal fit would be. Just on the outside, I DO think the Jets are the best situation for him.

So all of those teams you just listed are his best options.

I see one team up there who would make sense from a winning standpoint.

The Jets, really they are a side show now. Does he really want to go to his brother's city and play for those goof balls who share the Super Bowl champs stadium.

The Fins, who are picking two measly spots behind us. Yeah there are some good things there and plenty of bad. New Coach, owner, blah blah.

Seattle, really, really? Not even going to go here. Yeah go get your ass kicked by San Fran twice a year and live in the rain.

The Broncos, now these guys could win with PM. Really the best possible option you have up there.

The Cards, they have nice weather. I have heard this so many times in the past couple of weeks that I am so sick and tired of it. So a guy is going to go play somewhere because of the weather. Cards are big spenders now and have a great franchise? Why cause they went to the SB a few years ago and lost. They have a great WR. wow.

Who knows where the guy goes? I am just sick of hearing about all of the reasons this guy is going here or there. We will see.

We can offer the guy a SB winning coach, a chance to become the king of DC, a chance to kick his brothers ass twice a year, and a promise to build something great quickly. We have a defense, give us an offense and you are damn right we can make the playoffs and who knows once you get in.
