re: Colts Officially Release Peyton Manning (QB Thread #11)

Albert Breer says his arm has gotten "progressively better" the past six weeks. Should be no worries about him being ready to go.

Here's a new scenario..

Manning and Wayne/Garcon?

Or RG3 and Vjax?

^ RG3 and VJax if those are the options.

If PM signs here Wayne and Garçon are almost locks to also come over, Skins become instant contenders in the East.

Who is this "key" Redskin executive that has a connection to Manning?

Wonder if the Rams would want to nail down a trade before the value goes down when one of the teams goes out of the race? Would be nice to finalize this, and would love RG3 instead of Peyton due to long-term potential.

If Peyton / Wayne / Garcon come, we'd have the running game and defense to compete to win it all. We could draft a QB in the next 2-3 years as a project to hold the clipboard, Tannehill comes to mind. Still need to firm up the RT position.

Btw, wouldn't Peyton want to go to a team that doesn't compete with his brother?

re: Colts Officially Release Peyton Manning (QB Thread #11)

I'm shocked at the responses about Shanny and Peyton have a problem with the offense. Signing Peyton Manning is as much for his genius offensive mind as it is for his ability. He would teach Kyle a thing or two and Mike is smart enough to let him do it. If the move is made for Manning, I am not worried at all that Mike, Kyle and Peyton wont have a monster offense put together. Add a big WR in FA along with a good, emerging running game and two strong TEs and the offense is automatically one of the best in the east.

Now, I love RGIII and think that for a long term solution, I would rather have him. He could be amazing for years to come -- legitimizing the Skins for more than just 2-3 years.

Having to talk about who you would rather have, Peyton Manning or RGIII, is pretty much the best problem we have ever had in an off-season. I will cry if we don't end up with one of them.

I'm sure it's been said, but let's not compare bringing Manning in, who is no doubt fired up like never before, to when we brought McNabb in. The only way I see Manning going the way of McNabb is due to injury. Peyton commands too much respect and is too much of an attention to detail guy to let anything get out of hand.

This is the biggest intangible that PM brings. The Redskins franchise and locker room have been a joke for a long time. With ridiculous FA signings... I was beginning to think players came to the skins for a big paycheck and an understanding that mediocrity was accepted. Peyton is the biggest competitor in the game and his presense in the locker room will make every single player better and change the personality of the team... Finally.

Plus he'd become the whipping boy of the family if he mailed it in. It's not like little brother Eli has the disadvantage in the number of of Super Bowl wins...

you don't sign manning unless you plan to put talent around him so that he can win in that timeframe. Doing so requires your first round picks in the next two drafts to be productive players from day one.

You don't sign manning unless you Pretty much throw your west coast offense out the window to cater to his talents.

So now that you have signed manning, explain to me how it would be anything but stupid to trade your draft picks to move up and acquire a qb you don't anticipate starting for Atleast 4 years... A quarterback who would be ideally suited to run the offense you had in 2010 and 2012, but is the antithesis of the quarterback you catered your 2012 offense for?

Now, what you could do is sign manning to an Mcnabb-esque contract on steroids (really big numbers with no guaranteed money beyond this year), and then trade him Before the draft (and after he's proven his health) for extra ammo to get RG3. It would be devious... But brilliant if you could pull it off
Silly me going on hiatus forgot about the assumption that we have to trade up to get him at 2. I was thinking in terms of him being available at 6.

re: Colts Officially Release Peyton Manning (QB Thread #11)

Oh my God...get ready for my smack down people.

For those of you out there that think Peyton Manning coming here will (whether or not we get Wayne and Garcon) make us instant contenders in the east...WAKE THE F#$K UP!!!!

I am so enraged right now.

Have we not seen this before over the years?!?!?!?!?!

Its like we're all trying to find the great big name free agent to sign to make up for all or most of the bad big name free agent signings we've had in the past.

People then come up with "Oh thats the old management, this new management is different..." well this new management is still being judged, because this new management is also being viewed as the same management that decided to trade away a 2nd and another pick for Donovan McNabb, a guy who didn't even finish out the season with us.
People here always do the old "yeah ___ ____ may not work out, but ____ ____ is different..." No its not much different because we've seen this movie before in the past.

There are people on this board that truly believe that if we sign Peyton Manning (the greatest QB of all time IMO) we will be instant contenders if he stays healthy.

So apparently we decide to look at the positives and ignore the negatives, which, oh, by the way, got us in trouble with Albert Haynesworth a few years ago.

People are here saying "Oh Albert is soo good; he's the best DT today!; he'll make our whole team good; he's a pro bowler; With him and orakpo watch out we could go far with our DL, possibly like the giants"

But buried in all that was a few smart fans here saying things like "I don't know he only played good when it was his contract year; he never stayed healthy; he got into fights with coaches and teammates; he stomped on a guys head and has a lot of character issues; he's going to be another Dana Stublefield signing"...

well same thing with signing manning

positives
+ he's one of the greatest QB's of all time
+ he's better than what we have now at QB

negatives
- he could be hit right in the neck and never play a down of football again or even be paralyzed.
- hes been in one offense his whole life
- hes had some great skill players around him in Indy
- he isn't mobile getting out of the pocket/he doesn't fit the mike shanahan zone blocking bootleg offense
- he is at the end of his career
- he wants $$$ and he knows we pay.
- we are out of the draft for a potential franchise QB like RG3

Guys it will be a blessing in disguise when Peyton doesn't sign here, trust me.

I understand that the injury is a concern, but this is Peyton Manning we're talking about. Look what happened to the Colts without him. Put a healthy Peyton back in the line-up, and they're a playoff team every year.

Injury aside, just think back to the 2010 season. If anyone said THEN that we might be able to get him as a free agent, would anyone here have said no? I'm really not sure we would have had any issues at all.
