We don't need a QB. We need what we haven't hardly had for decades: a big-time QB.

This year's Colts are proof that a big-time QB can be worth many wins all on his own. And a big-time QB almost always comes with a big-time price.

So Trent Williams, Brian Orakpo, and some later year first round picks for Luck at #1. At #7 you can maybe move down a bit and get someone like Reiff or even Luck's Stanford teammate Jonathan Martin to be your LT. Don't know who would replace Orakpo.
I would tend to think that the Rams would like the 7th pick over TW and select a LT. Sure TW is probably more talented then who ever would be selected at 7, but since he's one toke away, that has to greatly diminish his value I would think.

Fair point.

EXACTLY! I want to see the Redskins make a balls out effort to secure an elite prospect at QB. I'm tired of settling at the most important position and that's exactly what we've done for decades. Getting leftovers in free agency-even the best QB in the past 20 yrs, Brad Johnson was a leftover we got in a trade-or settling for flawed first rounders (Ramsey & Campbell) rather than making a bold strong move at the position. All this Tannehill, Foles, wait until 2nd or 3rd round crap is for the birds. This franchise is at a key point, are you willing to be bold or do you want to remain middling and irrelevant. I don't know about the rest of you but I'm tired of being the homecoming opponent. Mike, Bruce, Dan, go get your QB now!

He was the first overall pick and rookie of the year so I'm sure some teams would go for a 1st

To me, it does not. It just makes the Colts a bad team.

I wouldn't say totally irrelevant but I like to think between being double teamed on rushing plays and held on others he has to be opening things up for Kerrigan. But as long as we were able to get a decent replacement then I could live with trading Orakpo.... I just get the feeling he would be a beast elsewhere and screw us but ..... thats par for the course.

Trent is a different story. He's been out and the team has not missed a beat. I'd even say they have played almost better. Almost. Trent is definitly expendable. It's just a shame he doesn't realize it and do whats right by his big contract. Instead he'd prefer to toke it up.

But in my scenario we can get Luck and keep our own first (let's say it's a 7th overall) and use that to move down to get more picks like we did last year
You plan your moves a lot better than the Redskins do.

To make it a Redskins-approved move, we need a mediocre roster filler or journeyman veteran to be handed a starting job at a position of critical need, and then we must all be informed that if you don't understand why the team is doing what it's doing, then it reflects poorly on you as a fan. Because the football people did this. It's not wrong.

So then it's settled: Willie Smith and Erik Pears will share left tackle next year.

Not that your fears are unfounded, but Helu has been much better in 2011 than Torain was in 2010. That and Helu was never a street free agent, unwanted by all teams. Those are significant differences.

1- I'd like to know what a "balls out effort" is?

2- Ramsey was, I thought at the time, the best QB and highest rated at the time.

3- Campbell. Only Cerrato would be scared that some other team might have made JC their 1st round pick. or 2nd for that matter which is why he made the leap. We all know Cerrato was an idiot.

Re: What is Andrew Luck Worth?

watched inside the nfl tonight. Nothing really new/important, but Michael Lombardi said that the st. louis job is appealing to coaches and he heard that if st. louis got the number 1 pick, that they Will trade it to the highest bidder in a hershel walker type of deal, which could be--as this board has mentioned--3 first rounders. I don't remember if he mentioned washington or not, but we need--if we want Luck--to have the jags lose to Indy-as we've mentioned before.

The point of this post is that what we keep hearing and hearing is starting to become more of a definite reality, should St. Louis get the pick.

So is 20/20 hindsight.

1-Meeting the reasonable asking price to be in position to get an elite prospect. Does anyone think the Giants regret giving up two firsts, two thirds and a fifth (I believe) for Eli Manning? Heck no, they have a ring as a result. Sometimes a brave bold move has to be made to achieve greatness.

2-Ramsey was the last pick of the first round, hardly an elite prospect and was a project coming out in probably the worst QB class in NFL history (David Carr, Joey Harrington & Ramsey were first round picks). The most "accomplished" QBs from that draft were David Garrard and Josh McCown. Of course hindsight is 20/20 on how they turned out but this is exactly what we've done, settle.

3-Even the Campbell pick was reaching/settling for a project. Of course the easy argument is that Rodgers went one pick before him. True, but Rodgers was considered a borderline elite prospect that slipped because of questions on how long it would take to break him from Tedford's QB mechanics. But the point was, again, even if we got Campbell in the 2nd where he was projected, it is still settling for a second tier prospect.
