Re: Redskins DE Jarvis Jenkins Has Torn ACL

Yeah dammit this sucks. The upgrades along the line might be the biggest difference on defense from last year. Hopefully another 3-4 team cuts a good de. I'm tired of having def ends that are just "serviceable". I liked Jenkins because he seemed to have the opposite attitude of haynesworth.

I seriously felt gutted when I read the news this morning. Especially because Shanahan caught a little bit of crap for taking him "so high."

Please and thank you, no.

He barely held up his end in a 4-3, it's time to let go. We have Bowen or whoever who can fill in for now so let's go out and either bring in another young body or look for any cuts that should be coming up.

They can't find anyone from the CFL who can do that same job?

I dont understand people who are like take the younger guy even if he's less talented and doesn't know the system just because he's younger.

Philip D knows the system from last year, and he's a BIG strong body who can do what he's asked to do in a limited role for at least this season. Don't see why people think younger is ALWAYS better. I would rather have Daniels then some young guy who wont make the team next year when JJ is back and needs to learn a system before he is even effective.

This. We just need a one year stopgap, and P. Daniels fills that role. He's not a pass rusher anymore, but he can still be an effective run stopper in limited action. He's stayed in good shape, and he knows the system. There aren't any teams out there giving away young talented 3-4 defensive ends with plenty of upside right now.

pd could work out but they way i see it there are 90 guys in each teams camp and all those rosters will be cut down to 53. which means there will be a bunch of preseason footage of guys playing in a 3-4, i think they'll be able to find a decnt young talent to bring in cheaper than they would with pd and with more potential.

Maybe they do, maybe they don't. I don't have any inside sources that tell me what their plans are, so I guess I'll have to wait like everybody else. Either way, whoever we bring in, I doubt will have as much of an impact as Jenkins was primed to have.

No different then how I don't understand people who are like take the old guy who really has not performed well in the last two years and should have been let go a long time ago.

I thought Daniels did well in his limited role last year. He was mostly on goal line packages and he was a very strong presence then.

It wont hurt to bring in the big guy for 9-10 snaps a game on defense to give the starters a breather

Maybe it's just me but I thought the whole D-line needed revamping due to too many old guys that didn't fit the scheme. Now people are chanting bring them back simply because they already know the system.

Re: Redskins DE Jarvis Jenkins Has Torn ACL

They may still bring someone in but here's your answer...

Quote:
4. Darrion Scott: The NFL is all about pouncing on an opportunity, and that’s what Scott was provided with once rookie Jarvis Jenkins departed during the second series with what ended up being a torn ACL. The way it’s currently constructed, the roster has Stephen Bowen and Adam Carriker as the starters at end, followed by Kedric Golston and now Scott as the reserves. Both of the back-ups will play if effective. Scott played 19 first-half snaps with the first-team defense, and he has a chance to stick with a strong final preseason game.
