Re: Redskins DE Jarvis Jenkins Has Torn ACL

People seem have misconceptions about ACLs, and hence they expect people to be "disabled" temporarily. It is unfathomable to them to expect someone to even walk after an ACL tear.

Well, you can certainly WALK on an ACL. Hell, there's even a basketball player who has played with no ACL.

ACL basically affects the lateral movement and stability. I didn't get mine repaired till 2 years after the fact and after the swelling went down, I was able to walk normal with it. Any sort of side to side motion or attempt at running and I would feel a slight twinge which would stop me from that activity.

Depending on the severity of the tear is really what it boils down to. A good majority of the time, knee cartilage is also torn. I couldn't walk on it right away. A basketball player playing with a ACL? Not good I imagine...lol

The dude is DeJuan Blair. I don't actually follow pro basketball; I found out because I was trying to get more info on Josh Gorges, who played hockey without an ACL for about 7 years with the help of a special brace.

Never had mine repaired since I am not an athlete anymore and did not feel like going through the rehab. I can go to the gym, jog (not really run though) and even play a littler bit of racketball from time to time. For a professional athlete obviously it need to be repaired for them to be able to reach anything approaching there previous level of play. The sooner he does this the better in my opinion

+1 on the bring back Daniels -- he's such a great presence on the team, and should still be able to contribute.

You hate to see it happen. It's why so many guys hate preseason. Jenkins is a hard worker and will do everything within his power to get back on the field as soon as possible. Nothing soothes the loss however.

F*ck the preseason. If you're going to tear an ACL, wouldn't you rather it happen in the regular season?

Should have reduced the preseason by 2, expanded to 18 regular season games, and started training camp earlier with an offsetting reduction in spring OTAs.

The one positive about Jenkins getting hurt, is that he will have lots of time to rehab, lift weights and get stronger next year. The knock on him was 19 reps at 225LBS, let's see what he can do next year.

Coming from somebody that has torn multiple acls and even more ligaments, I feel like I've become pretty educated on this matter. I knew it was a torn acl the moment it happened. This had nothing to do with pre-season. How easily it happened shows us his knee was a ticking time bomb. He was going to tear it eventually, better sooner than later.

If this happened week 1 or 2 it wouldn't be any different.

At least it's early enough where he'll have enough time to properly rehab it.

Yeah but I think he showed that strength was not an issue for him, he might not have been weight room strong but he was game strong which is far more important. As far the weight room goes alot of it is technique anyway and he may never have been taught how to properly bench press.

One word pretty much sums up how I feel about this: F**K!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DE went from a position of strength to a weakness. Jenkins was looking like a beast. Makes the Bowen signing even more important.
